Take Up Your Cross and Follow

Visitors: Welcome to our church.  Please sign our guest book!  If you do not have a church home, we pray that you will find one with us.  We have large-print bulletins available, as well as hearing assistance devices.  Please ask an usher if you require either of these.  Restrooms are located in the church school building.  Go through the door next to the choir loft, and straight ahead.  We also have restrooms downstairs in Fellowship Hall.  Again, exit through the door next to the choir loft, turn left down the hall, and go down the steps.

We Gather In Awe And Wonder

Chime Interlude And Candle Lighting Response

Leader:   We light a light in the name of the God who made heaven and earth.

All:         We light a light in the name of our Lord, whose love has been poured into our hearts.

Leader:   We light a light in the name of the Holy Spirit, who leads us into all truth.

All:         We light three candles because all praise and glory is yours, O God – Creator, Redeemer and Sanctifier.

Praise Response:   “Jesu, Jesu, Fill Us with Your Love”……….#408, v 1

*Call To Worship

One:       Praise God!

All:         We will sing praises to God.

One:       Praise God!

All:         We will seek God’s strength and presence continually.

One:       Praise God!

All:         We will remember God’s wonderful works throughout the ages.

One:       Praise God!

All:         For it is right to give God thanks and praise.

All:         God, you meet us where we are, and gently guide us to where we will be.  When we miss one sign, you send us another until we are compelled to respond in wonder and awe.  In our time together we know that you will continually guide and lead us in surprising and unexpected ways, for we know that you are with us always, as we dream dreams of a new heaven and earth.  Amen.

*Hymn: “I Sing the Mighty Power of God” ………………………#32

We Recognize Our Brokenness

 Prayer Of Confession

Leader:   For all the ways we hold fast to what is convenient, easy, or agreeable instead of what is good.  Lord, have mercy upon us.  For all the ways we love for personal gain and satisfaction instead of mutuality.  Christ, have mercy upon us.  When we lag in zeal, are poor in spirit, and undisciplined in our prayer instead of being persistent in prayer and hope.  Lord, have mercy upon us.

All:         When we judge those who rejoice, and chastise those who weep instead of showing compassion.  God, forgive us.  When we seek vengeance and strife instead of understanding and love, God, please forgive us.  (A time for silent prayers of confession)

 Assurance Of God’s Forgiveness

Leader:   In all we do, let our love be genuine; for if we love, as God has taught us, we will not be overcome by evil, but we will, by the grace of God, overcome evil with good.

Pastoral Prayer And The Lord’s Prayer

(Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.  Thy kingdom come.  Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread.  And forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.  And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.  For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever.  Amen.)

Our Offering: Our financial offering is one way that our members participate in the mission and ministry of this church. We thank you for your financial support.  For those of you who are visiting, please feel no need to participate in the offering.  This worship service is our gift to you.

We Go Forth To Live Transformed Lives

*Closing Hymn: “What a Fellowship, What a Joy Divine” ………….#837

Leader:   May the Holy Spirit light a fire within your heart:  a fire that burns hot and bright, but that does not consume; a fire that illumines your path, without scorching the eye.  May the Holy Comforter journey with you:  pouring the waters of welcome over your tired feet, and sharing the feast of love, bread and wine for the journey.  May the Great Creator sustain you:  smoothing out narrow and bumpy roads, to lovingly guide your pathway home.

John’s Meals Needs Volunteers To Pack And Deliver three weekend meals and snacks to the children from food insecure homes in the Upper Adams community.  We have been currently providing these weekend meals to the children at Arendtsville and Bendersville Elementary.  We would like to start serving the children at Biglerville Elementary.  BUT–We need more teams to pack and deliver weekend meals in order to expand our mission! The volunteer teams should consist of 3-4 people to pack food bags and then deliver and hand out the bags to children at an elementary school at 3:00 at the end of the week.  Each team would be scheduled to deliver the weekend meals approximately once a month.  We can provide assistance to volunteers to apply for security clearances as required by the school district.  Please contact Angie or Pam, John’s Meals Volunteer coordinator.
