Prayerful Living

Visitors: Welcome to our church.  Please sign our guest book!  If you do not have a church home, we pray that you will find one with us.  We have large-print bulletins available, as well as hearing assistance devices.  Please ask an usher if you require either of these.  Restrooms are located in the church school building.  Go through the door next to the choir loft, and straight ahead.  We also have restrooms downstairs in Fellowship Hall.  Again, exit through the door next to the choir loft, turn left down the hall, and go down the steps.

*Where noted, please stand if able.

We Gather In Awe And Wonder

Chime Interlude And Candle Lighting

Leader: Loving Spirit, you have chosen us to receive your light, and we light a candle as a sign of our gratitude.

All: Friend, Advocate, Guide—Lord Jesus you enfold us in your love, and we light a candle to celebrate your Presence, in which we rest.

Leader: Holy God, you have drawn us to your wonder, as you set your seal upon us in our baptism.  We light a candle in amazement that you care for each and every one of us, as your own child.

All: We light three candles for the Holy Trinity that loves, redeems, and sustains us.

*Call To Worship

Leader: We come together not around the uniformity of experience, belief, or expression but gathered in the One who is of many names and who is beyond all naming.

People: May we live in peace.

Leader: By God’s Spirit we become community even as we honor the sacred that exists outside the open windows and beyond these walls.

People: May we work for justice for all.

Leader: The One who desires for all to know and live in truth is gathering us together to worship in a spirit of truth.

People: May we become one in heart this day.

*Hymn: “For the Healing of the Nations”……………….……#346

Leader: Unite our hearts and minds in prayer as we worship you, the one God who is in and through all.  Through our prayers, those spoken and those lifted in silence, may your realm of love extend beyond the heart of our ideals to become the prayers we live with our lives.  Amen.

We Recognize Our Brokenness

Prayer Of Confession

Leader: Regardless of who we are, what we believe or do not believe, or the names by which we identify ourselves, we are one in you.

People: Confident of this reality, we can admit to the ways our personal identities at times become barriers to true community.

Leader: Rather than helping us seek peace and justice for all, our affiliations and ideologies often separate and keep us from working together.  Like curtains over a window, they keep us from the grand view of your realm,

People: We pray now for mutual understanding and partnership between ourselves and another with whom we struggle to recognize our unity in you.  (A time for silent prayers of confession.)

Assurance Of God’s Forgiveness

Leader: By God’s Spirit we are one.  And just as nothing can separate us from the love of God, nothing can truly separate us from each other.  In this same Spirit, our prayers become power to actualize and realize that which is our intention.  Let us give thanks for the peace between us and use our power to pursue God’s justice for all.

Pastoral Prayer And The Lord’s Prayer

(Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come.  Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread.  And forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.  And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.  For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever.  Amen.)

Our Offering: Our financial offering is one way that our members participate in the mission and ministry of this church. We thank you for your financial support.  For those of you who are visiting, please feel no need to participate in the offering.  This worship service is our gift to you.
