Call to Worship
Leader: Every day, God calls out to God’s world in love. Every day. Today, at this moment, we can pause and listen. Come, celebrate. God is calling your name.
God, we are here to worship. We are here to listen. We are here to know. We are here to be known. You know me, I am (name). Help me today to know you more fully. Amen.
Hymn#667 “When Morning Gilds the Skies”, Caswall/Barnby, 1868, public domain
Prayer of Confession
God, Jehovah, Yahweh, Wisdom, Creator, King, Servant, Abba…
With every name we give you, God, we understand something new about your nature. And yet we have been guilty too often of being satisfied with too little. We have allowed one name, or a small number, to limit our understanding of you. We confess to our limited imaginations and our unwillingness to explore, change, and grow. We confess to being unwilling to grow in our understanding of who you are.
ASSURANCE OF GOD’S LOVE
Leader: Friends, hear these words: God is endless and ageless and we are always invited deeper into the mystery. The journey stretches out before you. Amen. A TIME FOR YOUNG DISCIPLES
Leader: O Lord, open our lips!
ALL: And our mouths shall show forth your praise!

Book Club: Zion’s readers enjoyed a rousing discussion of “The Pecan Man” in Fellowship Hall on Thursday evening. You can read the summary of their discussion when it is published on Zion’s website. Also look for details of their October selection in coming bulletins.
Ladies Breakfast: Zion’s ladies plan to meet at the Apple Bin tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. for breakfast. Socially distanced seating is available. We are also looking ahead to the breakfast on October 11th, also at 9:00 a.m. at the Apple Bin, where we will have a “Stump the Ladies” contest. Bring an item, old or modern, that you think people will not recognize. Win a prize if you can stump everyone!
Not many people knew the Show & Tell item from a prior meeting was an ice cream scoop! And at the November breakfast, we plan to have our annual
White Elephant auction, so start thinking of what you might donate to the sale. The base price is $20 with bidding in $5 increments. You can’t put a price on the fun and laughter, so grab a friend or neighbor and join us!
What’s Cookin?!: The 2021-22 season of What’s Cookin’? begins this Wednesday, September 15th, from 6-7:30pm at Trinity Lutheran Church in Arendtsville. We plan to hold September and October evenings entirely outside and ask you to dress appropriately based on the weather. In the event of rain, we will move inside. As long as we are outside, masks are not required, but we ask you to bring them in the event we do need to move inside.
End of Summer Picnic: The Gettysburg Association has announced the picnic scheduled to be held at Camp Nawakwa on September 18th has been cancelled.
Community Aid clothing pickup: There will be a trailer available in Zion’s parking lot on September 25th from 9 to 11 a.m. (or until it is full!) for clothing donations. Maybe now is the time to clean out your closets and drawers as we get ready for fall!
Ramblers Hike: Also on Saturday, September 25th, Zion’s Ramblers will be hiking on Big Flat beginning at 9 a.m. See details in future bulletins and watch for your hiking shoes as you clean out those closets for the Community Aid clothing pickup!
Lay Leader Training: For anyone interested in participating in worship by doing special readings, there will be a training session on September 27th at 7:00 p.m. in the sanctuary.
Zion’s Website: Please consider helping an old lady get a facelift! Our website is long overdue for an update. We would like to get this project started as soon as possible so Zion can show the world how grounded we are in Mission and outreach. Should we be fortunate enough to raise more than we need, the remainder will go to the capital improvement fund which could use the boost! Just make checks payable to Zion UCC and put website in the memo line.
Amazon Smile! Don’t forget – Amazon will give a portion of your purchase price to Zion if you use smile.amazon.com and choose Zion as your charity! Every little bit helps.
Scripture directs us to make a joyful noise unto the Lord, and Zion needs help to do that! We are searching for a new choir director and new organist, so please use your networking skills to spread the word.
Visitors – We’re glad you stopped in. Don’t forget to help yourselves to a welcome packet on the credenza in the back of church!
