The Way of Faithfulness

 Visitors: Welcome to our church.  Please sign our guest book!  If you do not have a church home, we pray that you will find one with us.  We have large-print bulletins available, as well as hearing assistance devices.  Please ask an usher if you require either of these.  Restrooms are located in the church school building.  Go through the door next to the choir loft, and straight ahead.  We also have restrooms downstairs in Fellowship Hall.  Again, exit through the door next to the choir loft, turn left down the hall, and go down the steps.

We Gather In Awe And Wonder

Prelude

Announcements

Chime Interlude And Candle Lighting

Leader:   In a season of harvest we light a candle of gratitude for God’s goodness.

People:  In a season busy with school, work, and preparation for holidays, we light a candle reminding us to call on Christ for strength to continue our Christian journey.

Leader:   In a season where the hills around us are clad in beauty, we invoke the Spirit’s presence so we can somehow share that beauty with the world.

 *Call To Worship

One:       God, is our protection, our refuge;

All:         our counsel, our hope.

One:       God, is our cup, our portion;

All:         our guide, our path.

One:       Come, let us pause to provoke, challenge, comfort, and encourage each other in our call to faithful living.  Come, let us worship.

*Hymn: “Now Thank We All Our God” …………………………#643

*Invocation

Leader:   Loving God, help us to behold the gift that it is to be here together, to do your work for your sake.  We each come with different  gifts to share for your glory.

People:  We each come with different cultures, assumptions, values, theologies, and understandings.  Help us to celebrate and learn from these differences, so they draw us closer and do not divide us.  Help us to create a worship space where all are free to share their gifts, doubts and questions in community, remembering that we are each God’s living letters of faith, hope, and beauty.

All:         Amen.

We Recognize Our Brokenness

 Prayer Of Confession

Leader:   Loving and forgiving God, put your law in our hearts and write it deep in our minds, so that when we are distracted by shiny buildings, convenient technologies, fear, destruction and the persuasive promises of false prophets, we will not be lead astray.  Amen.  (A time for silent prayers of confession.)

 Assurance Of God’s Forgiveness

Leader:   Friends, may your hearts be in full assurance of God’s amazing, unwavering, and everlasting grace.  And may we always provoke one another to love and good deeds, constantly encouraging one another.

Our Offering: Our financial offering is one way that our members participate in the mission and ministry of this church. We thank you for your financial support.  For those of you who are visiting, please feel no need to participate in the offering.  This worship service is our gift to you.

The Ladies’ Breakfast Group very generously bid on White Elephant items and raised $410 for the General Fund.  We had a great time with lots of laughter.  Lovely and useful items were offered for auction, and the highest bidder got to take it home.  Please join us on December 10 at 9:00 a.m. at the Apple Bin; wear your favorite Christmas sweater, ugly or not.

Stained Glass Artwork Fundraiser. Beginning today, you will have the opportunity to purchase chances to win a beautiful stained glass piece of artwork crafted by Chris. $10 donations for each chance will be accepted before and after church until December 23 when the winner will be drawn.  All donations from this project will be used toward the general fund.  Please contact Kim J. or Chris for questions or more information.

Holiday Home Bureau Toys.   As it has in previous years, Zion is contributing to the Holiday Home Bureau Toy program.  We will be collecting NEW LEGO sets for ages 6-12.  (We ARE NOT collecting the younger aged DUPLOS. Holiday Home Bureau does not need us to donate these.)  The LEGOs can be for either girls or boys or unisex…small sets to large sets to starter sets.  We are also collecting NEW hats, gloves, scarves for those 12 and under.  There will be a display in church to offer some samples.  We (and the United Way) DO NOT want the GENERIC Legos. In addition, the program is seeking monetary donations to support its food certificate program (they provide $25 food certificates).  Please bring the donations to the church no later than 12/2/18.  We will bring the items forward during the children’s message on that Sunday.  Any questions, please ask Gina or Chris.

As Gifts For Baby Jesus, we will be collecting gifts for the clients of Children’s Aid Society in New Oxford. Any extras that we provide that they cannot use for their current clients will be placed in their clothing closet (God’s Closet).  The closet is open to families in need as well as Children and Youth Case Workers that can use the closet to supply clothing to foster children and families in their care.  The items they have requested are new pajamas and new toys for boys/girls ages 5-10 years of age.  Please do not wrap them.  Donations will be accepted by Jessica up until the Birthday Party on December 2; I will drop off the donation that week.  Many thanks as always for your support and generosity!

Our Traditional Christmas Social will be held following worship on December 16.  Homemade cookies, punch, coffee, and fellowship will all be in abundance.  If you wish to bring homemade cookies, please sign up on a clipboard on the credenza.

 Single Serve, Microwaveable Cups Of Macaroni And Cheese are being collected to benefit John’s Meals.  The cups need not be a brand name (like Kraft); store brand is fine.  We are aiming to provide 200 cups each month and they may be placed in the cupboard in the rear of the church. The 18-pkg boxes of single-serve Mac and Cheese is also a good donation.
