Call to Worship

One: Listen to the world sing God’s praises!  The sound of children laughing, the feel    of a gentle breeze, the taste of a home- cooked meal, the fresh smell of morning.

All: God’s steadfast love is everywhere around us.

One: Listen to the world sing God’s praises! In friendship restored, in reconciled relations, in love refreshed.

All: God’s steadfast love is everywhere around us.

One: May God’s love be present to us in this time together, that God’s presence might be known through us in all the earth.

   All: Amen.

Hymn #611 “Joyful Joyful”, public domain

Opening Prayer

O God, we open our mouths to praise you and you open our spirits to receive you.   We open our hands to serve you and you open our hearts to love you.  We are open to your mystery, O God, make yourself known in us this day.

Prayer of Confession

God, you welcome all to your house to join in the joyous feast of your love.  We know this; yet there are times we are not good agents for you, we hold on to

limiting, ill-informed beliefs about whom you hold dear.  We fail to extend your hospitality to all.  We are selective, we exclude.  At times we actively create divisions.  Send your spirit of love amongst us as we confess our failings.  Amen.

Assurance of God’s Love

Your steadfast love and faithfulness extend to all the world and all who live in it.  Your forgiveness is unending.  For this we are humbly grateful.  Amen.

*PRAISE VERSICLE

       Leader: Lift up your hearts!

Pastoral Prayer & Lord’s Prayer

God of all that sings, gaze upon us with your expansive compassion. Open our eyes to a new way of seeing our world. Open our minds to a new way of being in the world. Set in our hearts a longing for righteousness and equity, and teach us to be people who work for justice. Attune us to the Spirit, to your repairing grace, that we may bring healing to our relationships, and to our world. As we look toward becoming transformed and transformational people, guide this community as we journey to a harmony and capacity to love we never knew we had. Be beside us as we step out of our prejudices and narrow definitions, as we travel a road of inclusion and acceptance and to step into your realm where all are your friends. Amen.

Strengthen the Church:  Pentecost Sunday, May 23rd, has been selected as the appropriate day for the Strengthen the Church collection.  In the past pandemic year, your donations helped churches to adapt to needs they had never before experienced.  This year, as the UCC puts it, “your generosity will help us continue to plant new churches, awaken new ideas in existing churches and develop the spiritual life in our youth and young adults.  Through your gift, we offer extravagant welcome, support local church outreach, and build up the body of Christ. Because of you, we renew and grow stronger.”

Ladies Breakfast:  Zion’s ladies will meet on Monday, May 10th, at 9:00 a.m. at the Apple Bin for breakfast, inside or outside will be determined by the weather.  Come join us for fellowship and food!
