Friends Together

Visitors: Welcome to our church.  Please sign our guest book!  If you do not have a church home, we pray that you will find one with us.  We have large-print bulletins available, as well as hearing assistance devices.  Please ask an usher if you require either of these.  Restrooms are located in the church school building.  Go through the door next to the choir loft, and straight ahead.  We also have restrooms downstairs in Fellowship Hall.  Again, exit through the door next to the choir loft, turn left down the hall, and go down the steps.

We Gather In Awe And Wonder

Chime Interlude And Easter Candle Lighting

Leader:   We are a people living in the light of God’s resurrection power.  We light a candle to celebrate this amazing love.

People:  We are a people living in the light of Christ’s saving power.  We light a candle to celebrate our redemption.

Leader:   We are a people enlivened and emboldened by the Holy Spirit.  We light a candle to celebrate this gift of divine presence.

People:  We give thanks for all the ways that Easter has transformed our world, given us hope, and brought us into the light.

Response:   “Lord, Prepare Me“………….……..#701

*Call To Worship

One:       People of God, take a moment now as we begin our worship to remember these things.

All:         God intervenes in the world with righteousness and equity, everyone can be born of God.

One:       God’s Spirit does not select a few but falls on all who hear God’s word, God’s love extends to everyone.

All:         With these promises ringing loudly in our consciousness, we enter this house and this community knowing that God is eternally generous and we are all welcome here.

*Hymn: “From All That Dwell Below the Skies” …………………#327

One:       O God, we open our mouths to praise you and you open our spirits to receive you.  We open our minds to learn of your ways and you open our wills to follow.  We open our hands to serve you and you open our hearts to love you.  We are open to your mystery, O God, make yourself known in us this day.

We Recognize Our Brokenness

Prayer Of Confession

All:         God, you welcome all to your house to join in the joyous feast of your love.  We know this; yet there are times we are not good agents for you, we hold on to limiting, ill-informed beliefs about whom you hold dear.  We fail to extend your hospitality to all.  We are selective; we exclude.  At times we actively create divisions.  Send your spirit of love amongst us as we confess our failings.  Amen.  (A time for silent prayers of confession.)

 Assurance Of God’s Forgiveness

Leader:   Your steadfast love and faithfulness extends to all the ends of the world and all who live in it.  Your forgiveness is unending.  For this we are humbly grateful.  Amen.

Reading Of The Scripture:   Psalm 98 (O.T., pg. 521); Acts 10: 44-48 (N.T., pg. 122)

Message For This Day

*Hymn: “Pass It On”……………………….(insert)

Prayers Of The People And The Lord’s Prayer

All:         God of all that sings, gaze upon us with your compassion.  Open our eyes to a new way of seeing our world.  Open our minds to a new way of being in the world.  Set in our hearts a longing for righteousness and equity, and teach us to be people who work for justice.  Attune us to the Spirit, to your repairing grace, that we may bring healing to our relationships, and to our world.  As we look toward becoming transformed and transformational people, guide this community as we journey to a capacity to love we never knew we had.  Be beside us as we step out of our narrow definitions, as we travel a road of inclusion and acceptance and to step into your realm where all are your friends.  Amen.   (Prayers of petition.)

(Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.  Thy kingdom come.  Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread.  And forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.  And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.  For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever.  Amen.)

Our Offering: Our financial offering is one way that our members participate in the mission and ministry of this church. We thank you for your financial support.  For those of you who are visiting, please feel no need to participate in the offering.  This worship service is our gift to you.

 Offertory: “In the Garden”…………………..Miles

*Closing Hymn: “O for a World”. …………………….#372

One:       We leave this place reconnected:  reconnected to our community, reconnected to our faith, reconnected to the God of grace.  May your spirit inspire us to join all peoples and all the earth in singing your praises with joyful songs.  Let us roar with the sea, let us clap hands with the flooding water, and ring in the coming of your reign of justice to all people, and to all the world.  Amen.

Mama Mia! At The Totem Pole Playhouse.   After the sold-out success of last year’s “Million Dollar Quartet,” it’s not too early to be thinking about this year’s Zion group outing to the Totem Pole Playhouse. We’re planning to attend the Saturday, August 4,  matinee performance of “Mama Mia!”  Over 54 million people all around the world have fallen in love with the characters, the story, and the music that make Mamma Mia! the ultimate feel-good show!  On a small Greek island, Sophie dreams of a perfect wedding — one which includes her father giving her away.  The problem?  Sophie doesn’t know who he is! A mother. A daughter. Three possible dads. And a trip down the aisle you’ll never forget!  The story-telling magic of ABBA’s timeless songs propels this enchanting tale of love, laughter, and friendship, creating an unforgettable show.  If enough interest is expressed, an after-performance behind the scenes tour can be arranged for the group.  Tickets are $30 per person.  Please make checks payable to Debra.  A sign-up sheet is available in the back of the sanctuary.  Reserve your seat soon; tickets will go fast!  We expect the show to sell out soon.

Single Serve, Microwaveable Cups Of Macaroni And Cheese are being collected to benefit John’s Meals.  The cups need not be a brand name (like Kraft); store brand is fine.  We will be providing 100 cups each month and they may be placed in the cupboard in the rear of the church. The 18-pkg boxes of single-serve Mac and Cheese is also a good donation. It is cheaper and easier to store (boxes).  Any questions, please see Chris.  As always, thank you so much for your faithful support of this ministry.

Zion’s Rummage/Bake Sale is quickly approaching!  Here are some details and things you need to know . . . You may start bringing your donations in any time after May 20.  Please place the items in Fellowship Hall (which is where the event will be held), being mindful not to interfere with John’s Meals.  Items that we would love to have . . . Housewares, small appliances and electronics in full working order, holiday decorations, CDs, DVDs, video games, towels, blankets, bed sheets, curtains, small furniture items, jewelry, pocketbooks/purses, toys, books, and children’s equipment.  You do not need to price or display your items, as we will take care of that for you.  Special Note:  We are only accepting children’s clothing (up to size 12) that is clean and in good condition.  No adult clothing/shoes; please use the Community Aid bin in the parking lot for those items.  Other unacceptable items include text books, encyclopedias, dictionaries, Reader’s Digest condensed books, etc.  We will also need baked goods for the bake sale, so use this prep time to get creative in the kitchen!  The dates for the rummage/bake sale are Friday, June 8 from 7:00 a.m. till 5:00 p.m., and Saturday, June 9, from 7:00 a.m. till noon.  All proceeds will benefit our REACH mission trip to Vassar, Michigan.
