Call to Worship

Leader:  Life is a journey with others; we travel as a people, on a winding road.  We share our lives, our experiences, our hopes, our fears.

People:  With joy and hope we welcome other travelers to share our lives.  We learn from each other.  We laugh and cry with each other.  We are at home with each other.

Leader:  Life is a series of hellos and good-byes.

People:  We affirm the Spirit’s presence in the journey, thanks be to God!

Opening Prayer

God who creates, we have seen you in your good creation. God who saves, we have seen you at work in the world. God who renews, we have seen your restoring love touching the hearts of the people of the earth. We are thankful. Amen.

Hymn #1 “Holy, Holy, Holy! Lord God Almighty”, R. Heber 1827, J. B. Dykes 1861 public domain

Prayer of Confession

Leader: God of glory, of strength, power, majesty, blessing and peace, we confess that in the noise of our lives, we can fail to notice you. We confess that we don’t recognize you when you are not what we expect. We confess that we try to make you small. Forgive us. Help us to see more of who you are. Amen.

   ASSURANCE OF GOD’S LOVE

Leader: The God who is more than we can understand, who creates and fills an expanding universe, loves us more and forgives us more than we would dare to hope. Know that in God you can find strength and peace.

*PRAISE VERSICLE

      Leader: Lift up your hearts!

      ALL: Let God be praised!

*PRAISE RESPONSE  “I’m Gonna Sing When the Spirit Says Sing”  vs 1, public domain

Pastoral Prayer

O God, we pray for those who are in the midst of transition:

for those who are graduating…

for those who are leaving home…

for those who are getting married…

for those who have lost a family member, a friend, or a pet in the last year…

for those who are moving or have moved, or miss someone who has…

for those who are breaking up personal relationships…

for those whose families are touched by divorce…

for all others who are on the brink of farewell or trying to recover from a departure…

God, wrap your arms around each one of these.  Let the love be felt so deeply that healing and hope warm each heart.  Bless every “goodbye” Amen.

Give Thanks with a grateful heart; give thanks to the Holy One.

Give thanks because we’re given Jesus Christ, the Son.

Give thanks with a grateful heart; give thanks to the Holy One;

Give thanks because we’re given Jesus Christ, the Son.

And now let the weak say, “We are strong”; let the poor say, “We are rich

Because of what the Lord has done for us!”

And now let the weak say, “We are strong”; let the poor say, We are rich

Because of what the Lord has done for us!”  Give thanks.  Give thanks.

Generous God, just as you did not overlook those in need, we see those in our community and our world who need support and care. We see that what we give makes a difference. We give these gifts in love of you and of our neighbour.

Representatives of Zion needed:  Zion still needs two volunteers to represent us at the Penn Central Conference annual meeting on June 12th.  And great news – you can do it from the comfort of your home computer via Zoom.  Bylaw changes, board members, synod delegates, and budget are on the agenda.  There are some pre-session Zoom gatherings for questions and explanations scheduled this week, so please contact the church office as the Spirit moves you!

Soda Can Tabs:  Don’t forget your soda can tabs.  Just place them in the barrel on the credenza in the back of church.

A/V Volunteers Needed: If you are interested in audio visual and computer technology or have experience and would like to participate in the life of the church this way, please call the church office at 717-677-8319 or send an email to zion_ucc_arendtsville@comcast.net. You will be welcomed with open arms, training, and meticulously detailed notes!
