OPENING HYMN #385 “All People That On Earth Do Dwell”, William Kethe 1560, Louis Bourgeois 1551, public domain

One: We are grateful for the comforts of our homes, but confess that the places we call home sometimes constrain us from seeing the world as you see it. Within the restrictions of our comforts, we are unable to recognize how those same comforts are denied to others.

All: Loosen our chains and set us free.

One: We are grateful for the freedoms we enjoy, but confess that our fears too often put us in prisons of our own making. Rather than face uncertainties with

courage and trust, we lock ourselves behind walls and closed doors and let our fears become a prison, not only for ourselves but many others as well.

All: Loosen our chains and set us free.

One: We are grateful for relationships of love and friendship, but confess that sometimes we let these bonds keep us from hearing the voice of those who are excluded from the care and support on which we depend. We let our relationships chain us to limited worldviews, experiences, cultures, and we become unable to recognize the potential for new and vital relationships that might be ours.

All: Loosen our chains and set us free.

Leader:  Christ is Risen!

ALL:  Christ is Risen indeed!  Alleluia!

*PRAISE RESPONSE “Halle, Halle, Hallelujah”, Caribbean melody

      SCRIPTURE READING:   Revelation 22:  12-14, 16-17, 20-21 and John 17:  20-26

From the Consistory:  Covid cases are mounting again.  After consultation and consideration, the Consistory is highly recommending you wear masks in church again.

Don’t forget to sign up to sponsor altar flowers in honor or memory of loved ones and for special events!  The flower chart is on the bulletin board as you enter church.

Coming Up This Week:

Sunday School – Cemetery walk         Church                  10:15 a.m.

Looking Forward:

June 5         Worship with Communion                   Sanctuary                9:00 a.m.

Prayer Requests:  Remember to send your prayer requests via email to the church office by Friday evening to have them included in the Sunday service.

Prayer List Changes Coming!  Spring and summer produce so much growth in our flower beds and gardens but tending them can be overwhelming. Sometimes we have to weed out a bit.  Our prayer list has gotten overwhelming, too!  It is easy to put a name on the list and forget about it.  Our prayer chain volunteers feel their “prayer contributions are diluted” as one member described it.   So, to gently get the list back in manageable shape, we are returning to the process used in prior years.  When you submit a name to the prayer chain via Angie V. or the office, it will remain on the list for one month and then be removed – removals will begin at the end of June.  If you wish the person to continue receiving prayers, please resubmit the name again the next month.  Only new submissions will be published in the bulletin each week.  If you want to be a prayer volunteer just contact Angie, and thanks to all who pray and submit names.

The gardens are starting to produce!  If you have extra fresh produce you are willing to share, please bring it to Zion House on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  We will have a table on the front porch where people can find free food to supplement their dinner tables.

Calling all grads!  On June 12th, we will honor our 2022 graduates during worship.  If you have a student graduating high school or college, please let us know and include their future plans so we can share your good news in the bulletin.  Either email (zion_ucc_arendtsville@comcast.net) or call the office (717-677-8319).

Lay Readers needed for June:  If you would like to read scriptures any Sunday in June, please call or email the office!

Soloists wanted!!  If you or a friend would like to share vocal or instrumental talents over the summer, there is a sign-up sheet on the credenza.

This year, Vacation Bible School will run from July 18 – 22 from 6:15 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  Shepherds for each class and a Snack Coordinator are being recruited.  If you are moved to fill one of those positions, please let Miss Chris know soon so we are not scrambling at the last minute for volunteers.  Children in the pre-Kindergarten group will need a person to accompany them to VBS.  Thanks for supporting Zion’s kiddos!

Ladies Breakfast:  The next Ladies Breakfast will be Monday, June 13th, at 9:00 a.m. at The Apple Bin.  That day, we will take reservations to go to the Old Farm House on Wednesday, June 22nd, for brunch and tea. Please consider joining us for this lovely event; we will carpool from Biglerville.

Clean-up Day has been rescheduled for June 18th.  Every pair of willing hands is gratefully accepted!  Meet in the parking lot at 8:30 a.m. (or come when you can) as we tackle removing the gumdrop tree, weeds, mulch, etc. at the church and Zion House.

Mark your calendars!  Worship at Oakside Park will be held June 19th at 10:00 a.m. at Pavilion 3.  Lunch will follow so plan what scrumptious dish or dessert you would like to share with everyone.  Chicken and drinks will be provided.

Sponsoring Flowers:  Sponsoring altar flowers is now easier!  After signing the flower chart, go to the credenza in the back of church.  there will be an envelope in which you can put your checks made out to Zion UCC Altar Guild.  The cost is $35.00 unless you are requesting special flowers (normally, the florist chooses the arrangement) in which case you need to contact the florist directly and pay accordingly, and the phone number will be on the envelope.  In the envelope there will be slips of paper on which you can write the language you want to appear in the bulletin (or you can call the church office and tell Cindy).  Thanks for brightening Zion’s altar!

Visitors – We’re glad you stopped in.  Don’t forget to help yourselves to a welcome packet on the credenza in the back of church!
