Call to Worship

Leader: Come, sun!

Tell of the glory of God.

Come, moon!

Reveal God’s knowledge. Come, stars!

Shine on the life God gives. Come, everyone! (everyone raises hands)

Come and celebrate all God’s creation.

Opening Prayer

God who speaks, we want to hear you. Guide us in this time of worship to hear your voice. Speak to us in the songs, in the Word, in the laughter of children, and in the chatting with a new friend. Speak to us, God, touch our hearts, your children are listening. Amen.

Hymn# 24 “God, Who Stretched the Spangled Heavens”, C. Cameron, arr. Wm. Moore, ©1967 Hope Publishing Co.

Prayer of Confession

God, we can be distracted by the constant pressures in our lives: the accounts we have yet to pay, the better job that we haven’t applied for, that bigger house we think we need.

God, we can be distracted by instantaneous communication: the messages that are pouring in, the calls that keep coming, and the social networks that never shut down

God, we can be distracted by information: the 24-hour news cycle, libraries available at the click of a mouse, medical information changing every day.

But God, we seek to focus on you.  We want to communicate with you.  We want to know more about you.

Forgive us for the times when we allow ourselves to be distracted from living in your way, for the times when we want more than we need, and for desiring the secular instead of your way. Amen.

   ASSURANCE OF GOD’S LOVE

God of the world, you listen to us even when we don’t listen to you. Hear our prayer and may we hear the sound of your forgiveness. Amen.

Give Thanks with a grateful heart; give thanks to the Holy One.

Give thanks because we’re given Jesus Christ, the Son. (repeat these two lines)

And now let the weak say, “We are strong”; let the poor say, “We are rich

Because of what the Lord has done for us!” (repeat these two lines)

Give thanks.  Give thanks.

 Prayer of Dedication

As Samuel listened to God, we strive to listen to God in our everyday lives. We bring our gifts, both tangible and intangible, to this table and to this church. May God bless these gifts, and may we grow stronger as we move forward in harmony as the community of Christ.
