Call to Worship

You are the God of the complex – galaxies and nebulas and quantum physics.

You are the God of the simple – bread made from grain, wine made from grapes.

You are the God of the extraordinary – DNA, cells and subatomic material.

You are the God of the ordinary – daises, dirt, and dandelions.

You are the God who blesses us with the richness of the earth, and you are the God who chose to live in poverty.

You are the God that searches for the lost and you are the God who loses his life so that we might be found.

Opening Prayer

Leader: Spirit of love and courage, as we begin this time of worship, grant us pause to be filled anew with the trust and dignity of Jesus the Christ.  May Jesus’ full embrace of life, with all of its unknowns, be our strength and inspiration.  Amen.

Hymn #12 “Immortal, Invisible, God Only Wise”, W. C. Smith, 1867, public domain

Prayer of Confession

God, we know that there are no restrictions on your grace, and there are no boundaries to your love. Yet, we confess that we are guilty of trying to place restrictions on your gifts of love and grace.

Too often, we build roadblocks in our neighbor’s paths, instead of building up our relationships with one another. Merciful God, forgive us. Teach us to open our hearts, so that we may love as you love.

Guide us in the ways of your grace that we may offer it freely to all others – just as you have freely given it to us even now.

Leader: Peace! Be still!” Friends, in and through Christ, love has overcome.  Love is victorious.  We arise as with the dawning of a new day.

People: Praise be to God.  Amen!

       Leader: Lift up your hearts!

       All: Let God be praised!

Give Thanks with a grateful heart; give thanks to the Holy One.

Give thanks because we’re given Jesus Christ, the Son. (repeat these two lines)

And now let the weak say, “We are strong”; let the poor say, “We are rich

Because of what the Lord has done for us!” (repeat these two lines)

Give thanks.  Give thanks.

Prayer of Dedication

Like David, our experiences prepare us for the next step and give us gifts and abilities to share. Take what we bring today that it may be used to demonstrate your care for people.

Choir Director & Organist Needed:  If you know of anyone interested in either position, please contact the Personnel Committee.

Keep Your Soda Can Tabs coming:  On May 23rd, Zion handed off 12.5 lbs. of aluminum pull tabs (that we had been collecting/accumulating in 3 barrels at the church) to Chloe, a young lady who (along with her soccer team) has been collecting tabs for the Danville Ronald McDonald House. Various teams participating in an upcoming soccer tournament hoped to reach their goal of donating 250 lbs. (of tabs) to the charity! At last count, Chloe indicated her team had collected 45 lbs.  Zion will continue to collect pull tabs from any aluminum can (e.g., beverage cans, soup cans, etc.). Simply place the tabs in the barrel on the credenza in the back of the church.  Thank you for your continued, ongoing efforts in supporting the Ronald McDonald House Charities.

Under the Horizon:  Under the Horizon has a few openings remaining for summer pottery camps in case anyone is interested.  If so, please contact cathleen@underthehorizon.net.
