Call to Worship

Leader:  Rejoice in our God always!

People:  Again, I say, rejoice!

Leader:  For God has gathered us together

People:  from all the corners of the earth

Leader:  to be present now,

People:  and to know the joyful unity

Leader:  of being one with Christ.

People:  Rejoice in our God always!

Leader:  Again, I say, rejoice!

Opening Prayer

Leader: Come Spirit, abide with us today; be our guide and wise counsel, be our advocate and our companion, be our reassurance. You lead us along new pathways and into new places. You reveal your nature and the nature of God to us. Hold us in your care. Amen.

Hymn insert – “I Woke Up This Morning” African-American spiritual, arr. Jeffrey Radford, 1983

Prayer of Confession

Leader:  Jesus was careless about himself;

People:  we are careful

Leader:  He was courageous;

People:  We are cautious.

Leader:  He trusted the unworthy;

People:  We trust those who have good collateral.

Leader: He forgave the unforgivable;

People:  We forgive those who do not really hurt us.

Leader:  He was meek;

People:  We are ambitious.

Leader:  He had no place to lay his head and did not worry about it;

People:  We fret when we cannot have the last convenience manufactured by clever science.

Leader:  Merciful God, forgive, and in freedom of your forgiveness,

People:  May we climb to the threshold of our belief in you, take up our cross and follow your Son.  Amen.

Leader: One fact remains that does not change:  God has loved you, loves you now, and will love you always.  This is the good news that brings us new life.

   Leader: Lift up your hearts!

      ALL: Let God be praised!

John’s Meals:  Thank you, Thank you!  John’s Meals has completed our 7th year of delivering weekend supplemental meal bags to food-insecure students and their siblings in the Upper Adams School District.  During the 2020-21 school year, 4451 bags were delivered over 31 weeks totaling 22,255 meals for grades 3 through 6.  There has been an 8% increase in food costs over last year.  In the 7 years of John’s Meals existence, 27,261 bags totaling 105,557 meals have helped to feed hungry students.  Zion’s donations of Mac and Cheese along with financial support have greatly helped to keep the John’s Meals program alive.  We look forward to our 8th year and are hoping to expand John’s Meals to feed additional school age students.  Currently we have enough plastic bags to start up in the Fall and will advise when we need them again.   Thank you again for your generosity and the students thank you as well.  Angie V. and the John’s Meals Board.
