Worship: July 9, 2017

Sunday, July 9, 2017

Visitors: Welcome to our church.  Please sign our guest book!  If you do not have a church home, we pray that you will find one with us.  We have large-print bulletins available, as well as hearing assistance devices.  Please ask an usher if you require either of these.  Restrooms are located in the church school building.  Go through the door next to the choir loft, and straight ahead.  We also have restrooms downstairs in Fellowship Hall.  Again, exit through the door next to the choir loft, turn left down the hall, and go down the steps.

We Gather In Awe And Wonder

Chime Interlude And Candle Lighting

Leader:   Holy Spirit, Creator, as you hovered over the waters, cover us with the light of your presence.

All:         Holy Spirit, Comforter, by you we are born again, cover us with the light of your holiness.

Leader:  Holy Spirit, Redeemer, by you we are made a living temple, cover us with the light of redemption.

All:         Breath of life, you breathe light into the whole body of the Church and dwell in each one of us.

Response: “God of Great and God of Small”………………#19, v 4

*Call To Worship

One:       Come, kneel beside God’s well.

All:         We come, ready to experience the waters of encounter.

One:       Come, kneel  beside God’s well – a place of change and renewal.

All:         We are ready to feel the flowing transformation of living water.

One:       Come, kneel beside God’s well – a sacred place of love found and lost.

All:         We are here to experience God’s presence in our midst; we are here to worship and celebrate the love found within this community.

One:       Come, friends!  Feel God’s cleansing waters.

*Hymn: “Arise, Your Light Is Come!”….. …………..……#744

Leader:   Gracious God, you meet us in the most unexpected of places; in the moments when your presence seems to have disappeared; in the eyes of a stranger; in the experiences that make us feel the most uncomfortable; in abundance that is found amidst perceived desolation.

People:  We come to worship today, giving thanks for the gift of encounter.  Through your Spirit’s movement in our lives and in this time together, may our hearts be torn open to your call in our lives, so that we may be stirred to go out and transform your world.  Amen.

 We Recognize Our Brokenness

Prayer Of Confession

Leader:   God of new life, we come to this time and place, feeling raw and vulnerable.  We know that too often we forget about your constant love; we look for love in all the wrong places, and we put our trust and life in all the wrong things.  And yet, we continue to come, bearing the hope of transformation that is only possible in and through you.  Amen.  (A time for silent prayers of confession)

 Assurance Of God’s Forgiveness

People:  Through the sound of water, we hear vibrancy.  Through the touch of water, we feel calm.  Through the taste of water, we experience nourishment.

Leader:   God’s living waters are ever-present in our lives, offering constant love through vibrant, calm, and nourishing encounters.  God is a God of abundance and relationship and forgiveness.  And for that we rejoice!  Amen.

Reading Of The Scripture: Romans 7: 15-25a (N.T., pg.147)

Message For This Day

*Hymn: “Today We All Are Called to Be Disciples”………………..#757

Pastoral Prayer And The Lord’s Prayer

(Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.  Thy kingdom come.  Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread.  And forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.  And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.  For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever.  Amen.)

Our Offering: Our financial offering is one way that our members participate in the mission and ministry of this church. We thank you for your financial support.  For those of you who are visiting, please feel no need to participate in the offering.  This worship service is our gift to you.

 Offertory: …………….  Soloist:  Fred

*Doxology: “Praise God, from Whom All Blessings” ……….….#606

 *Prayer Of Dedication

Leader:   God, we offer these gifts to you now, as a symbol of all that we are and all that we have.  May these gifts of money, and the varied gifts that each of us offers – gifts of time, talent, energy, and love – continue to empower the work of the church, your people, in the world.  Amen.

We Go Forth To Live Transformed Lives

*Closing Hymn: “The Church of Christ Cannot Be Bound” …….#766

Leader:   Listen!  Can you hear it?  It’s the sound of the Beloved, leaping upon the mountains and bounding over the hills!  Let us go from this place, open to the Beloved’s movement in our lives, and open to embracing love’s beauty in the world.  Go – ready to greet the stories of another as opportunities for love.  And ready to be transformed by God the comforter, God the redeemer, and God the sustainer.  Amen.

*Choral Benediction: “You Shall Go Out with Joy”………………#80

*Chime Meditation

Will YOU please help the children in the Upper Adams School District?

John’s Meals needs your help! The volunteers for John’s Meals pack and deliver three weekend meals and snacks to the children from food insecure homes in the Upper Adams community.  We have been currently providing these weekend meals to the children at Arendtsville and Bendersville Elementary.  Next school year, we would like to start serving the children at Biglerville Elementary.

BUT–We need more teams to pack and deliver weekend meals in order to expand our mission!

The volunteer teams should consist of 3-4 people to pack food bags and then deliver and hand out the bags to children at an elementary school at 3:00 at the end of the week. Each team would be scheduled to deliver the weekend meals approximately once a month.  We can provide assistance to volunteers to apply for security clearances as required by the school district.

PLEASE consider volunteering for this outreach to the children in our community! It would be great if all of our area churches could provide one or more teams to become involved in this mission!   Please contact Angie Pam.

Please Volunteer To Assist With Children’s Sunday School beginning in the fall of 2017. The sign up book is on the credenza.

Greeter And Bulletin Sponsorship Sign-Up Sheets are now on the credenza.

Greeters are needed for most Sundays in August.

(Bulletin Sponsorship is $15 per Sunday. Please place your remittance designated for Bulletins in the offering plate.)

Labels For Education Summer Update. Campbell’s reports that due to recent decline in their Labels for Education program, they have decided to wind down the program.  From now through end of summer, only UPCs with the Labels for Education logo will be accepted and be able to be redeemed for points.  Campbell’s has begun the process of removing the Labels for Education logo, and state that there will be a limited number of products that contain these labels in stores through August 2017.  Zion’s Sunday School currently has approximately 12,000 points banked in our account, and have a goal to reach 22,000 for our third and final $250 Visa Gift Card to be used towards Sunday School activities for Zion’s children.  Please drop any labels in the red Labels for Education boxes located in the vestibule upon entering the sanctuary, or on the side table in the main Sunday School room.  Zion’s kids thank you for your help in wrapping up this project successfully over the next few months!
