Searched, Known, Named
Visitors: Welcome to our church. Please sign our guest book! If you do not have a church home, we pray that you will find one with us. We have large-print bulletins available, as well as hearing assistance devices. Please ask an usher if you require either of these. Restrooms are located in the church school building. Go through the door next to the choir loft, and straight ahead. We also have restrooms downstairs in Fellowship Hall. Again, exit through the door next to the choir loft, turn left down the hall, and go down the steps.
We Gather In Awe And Wonder
Chime Interlude And Candle Lighting
Leader: Holy Spirit, Creator, as you hovered over the waters, cover us with the light of your presence.
All: Holy Spirit, Comforter, by you we are born again, cover us with the light of your holiness.
Leader: Holy Spirit, Redeemer, by you we are made a living temple, cover us with the light of redemption.
All: Breath of life, you breathe light into the whole body of the Church and dwell in each one of us.
Response: “Our God Is an Awesome God”…………..#616 sung twice
*Call To Worship
One: From every direction, we come and gather.
All: We have made our way here today. And we greeted one another as we arrived.
One: No matter who we are, or from where we come, God meets us in this place. God meets us in the eyes of the stranger sitting next to us, and in the wonder of children’s whispers.
All: Led by the Spirit of God, remind us that we are children of God.
One: Led by the Spirit, let us be present to the community we create.
All: We are here. Gathered to listen and respond to God’s blessings.
*Hymn: “O Worship the King, All Glorious Above!” …………………#41
Leader: Help us to listen to the groans in our midst, O God: creation’s groans of labour pains, our neighbour’s groans of loneliness, the groans that we bring, with trepidation and awe. We come bringing all of the yearnings that are on our hearts this day. And we know that you meet us, wherever we are. Thank you for your ever-constant presence, and companionship along life’s journey. We know that with you, we are never alone. Amen.
We Recognize Our Brokenness
Prayer Of Confession
Leader: God, we admit that too often we confuse your time for our time, your world for our world. We lose sight of what is truly important, and we think that we have all the answers. When we feel strong and confident, we forget you. And we forget our neighbours. Help us to see that we are wound up in a tangled web of community, with you at the centre. Amen. (A time for silent prayers of confession.)
Assurance Of God’s Forgiveness
Leader: The good news is that our God is one of patience and understanding. Even when we stray, we are accompanied by a love that is too deep for words. Hear this. Know this. Remember this! Thanks be to God.
Reading Of The Scripture: Genesis 28: 10-19a (O.T., pg. 24)
Anthem: “A Mighty Fortress”………………. arr. Joel Raney
Reading Of The Gospel: Matthew 13: 24-30, 36-43 (N.T., pg. 14)

Pastoral Prayer And The Lord’s Prayer
(Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.)
Our Offering: Our financial offering is one way that our members participate in the mission and ministry of this church. We thank you for your financial support. For those of you who are visiting, please feel no need to participate in the offering. This worship service is our gift to you.
Offertory: “You Raise Me Up”…………. arr. Melody Bober
*Doxology: “Praise God, from Whom All Blessings” ……..….#606
*Prayer Of Dedication
Leader: With all that we have, and all that we are, we reach out to you, our God of generosity. We ask that you receive these ordinary gifts; may they be used to offer extraordinary blessings in our community and world. May these gifts remind us that through you, all is possible! Amen.
We Go Forth To Live Transformed Lives
*Closing Hymn: “Let All Things Now Living” ………..…….#37
Leader: As you go from this place, may God’s love hold you, may God’s light guide you, and may God’s liberation free you. Go out into the world reminded of God’s unwavering presence in your life, and the lives of others. May you be reminded of this in the eyes of each person you meet, a reminder of God’s love manifest in the world. Amen.
*Choral Benediction: “You Shall Go Out with Joy”………………#80

Will YOU Please Help The Children In The Upper Adams School District?
John’s Meals needs your help! The volunteers for John’s Meals pack and deliver three weekend meals and snacks to the children from food insecure homes in the Upper Adams community. We have been currently providing these weekend meals to the children at Arendtsville and Bendersville Elementary. Next school year, we would like to start serving the children at Biglerville Elementary.
BUT–We need more teams to pack and deliver weekend meals in order to expand our mission!
The volunteer teams should consist of 3-4 people to pack food bags and then deliver and hand out the bags to children at an elementary school at 3:00 at the end of the week. Each team would be scheduled to deliver the weekend meals approximately once a month. We can provide assistance to volunteers to apply for security clearances as required by the school district.
PLEASE consider volunteering for this outreach to the children in our community! It would be great if all of our area churches could provide one or more teams to become involved in this mission! Please contact Angie or Pam, John’s Meals Volunteer coordinator..
