Shaped by God’s Word
Third Sunday after Epiphany
Visitors: Welcome to our church. Please sign our guest book! If you do not have a church home, we pray that you will find one with us. We have large-print bulletins available, as well as hearing assistance devices. Please ask an usher if you require either of these. Restrooms are located in the church school building. Go through the door next to the choir loft, and straight ahead. We also have restrooms downstairs in Fellowship Hall. Again, exit through the door next to the choir loft, turn left down the hall, and go down the steps.
We Gather In Awe And Wonder
Epiphany Candle Lighting
Leader: We light a candle in the name of the One who filled all creation with the Word.
People: We light a candle in the name of the Christ the Morning Star, whose incarnate presence brings light to the world.
Leader: We light a candle to remind us to blaze forth with the Holy Spirit, a shining city on a hill.
*Call To Worship
One: The heavens are telling the glory of God;
All: and the firmament proclaims God’s handiwork.
One: Day to day pours forth speech, and night to night declares knowledge.
All: Its rising is from the end of the heavens,
One: let God’s knowledge rise in us.
All: Let God’s glory shine all around us.
*Hymn: “ In Christ There Is No East or West”………….………#317
Leader: Sculptor of the heavens and the earth, creator of the sea and sky, we praise your holy name because you created us in love and ordered our lives that we might live with peace, joy, mutuality, unity, and abundance. Help us see the goodness that is all around us in the beauty of your creation and the framework of your commands. Help us hear your word this day. Let it shape us and make us new once more. Amen.
We Recognize Our Brokenness
Prayer Of Confession
One: Is God’s word at the centre of our life?
All: Creator God, you speak creation into being, and we try to hide our lives from the light of your word. Forgive us. We acknowledge that God’s word should shape our community life, yet we limit the reach of God’s voice. We squeeze it into one special hour, we squeeze it into Bible studies, or we squeeze it into a place set apart. We often neglect to put God’s word at the heart of our life together.
One: How can we place God’s word at the centre of our life?
All: Shift our vision, gracious God, so that we might see how our lives are knit together by your love and your commands. Help us to remember that attention to your word and command is attention to community building, peace and justice, and to praise you. Amen. (A time for silent prayers of confession.)
Assurance Of God’s Forgiveness
One: We are the Body of Christ. The one spirit of God is poured out upon us all. We are forgiven. We are loved.
All: Thanks be to God! Amen.

Pastoral Prayer And The Lord’s Prayer
(Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.)
Our Offering: Our financial offering is one way that our members participate in the mission and ministry of this church. We thank you for your financial support. For those of you who are visiting, please feel no need to participate in the offering. This worship service is our gift to you.
*Doxology: “Praise God, from Whom All Blessings” …….…..….#606
*Prayer Of Dedication
We Go Forth To Live Transformed lives
*Closing Hymn: “To God Be the Glory” ……………………….#634
One: The spirit of God is upon us. We go out into the world for we have been anointed,
All: to share the good news with everyone we meet, to bring freedom to those held captive, to bring hope to those who have been displaced, to tear down all structures of oppression, to declare that this is God’s time.
*Choral Benediction: “Blessed Assurance, Jesus Is Mine!”……….#839 vs 1
*Where noted, please stand if able.
