Broken Relationships

Visitors: Welcome to our church.  Please sign our guest book!  If you do not have a church home, we pray that you will find one with us.  We have large-print bulletins available, as well as hearing assistance devices.  Please ask an usher if you require either of these.  Restrooms are located in the church school building.  Go through the door next to the choir loft, and straight ahead.  We also have restrooms downstairs in Fellowship Hall.  Again, exit through the door next to the choir loft, turn left down the hall, and go down the steps.

We Gather To Worship

Prelude:   “10,000 Reasons” (Bless My Soul)  …………. Redman

Soloist: Kyleigh

Chime Interlude And Candle Lighting

Leader:   Holy Spirit, Creator, as you hovered over the waters, cover us with the light of your presence.

All:         Holy Spirit, Comforter, by you we are born again, cover us with the light of your holiness.

Leader:  Holy Spirit, Redeemer, by you we are made a living temple, cover us with the light of redemption.

All:         Breath of life, you breathe light into the whole body of the Church and dwell in each one of us.

Response: “Let All Things Now Living”………..……#37, v 1

 *Call To Worship

Voice 1:  Gracious God, we call you our father and our mother.  We call you our friend.

All:         From many directions, we greet you, O God of many names.

Voice 1:  We call you listener.  We call you prophet.  We call you healer.

All:         From many directions, we greet you, O God of many names.

Voice 1:  We call you steady.  We call you disturbing.  We call you compassionate.

All:         From many directions, we greet you, O God of many names.

Voice 1:  No matter what we call you, and no matter where we meet you along life’s  journey, we know:

All:         our many-named God calls to us and whispers our names.  We come to worship in community, accompanied by a love too deep for words.

*Hymn: “Blessed Assurance, Jesus Is Mine!”. ……………#839

Leader:   Comforter God, with vivid dreams and bold visions, inspire us; with tender love towards one another, renew us; with your Spirit, alive with colour and breath, lead us to this place.  May we speak and act authentically with one another, that this community bears witness to the reconciling, generous spirit of Christ.  Amen.

 We Recognize Our Brokenness

Prayer Of Confession

Leader:   Forgiving God, we admit that too often we seek human validation, instead of the validation that is most important:  yours.  Like Peter, who doubted because he was frightened, we sometimes doubt your presence and your love for us.  We confess that we become seduced by the world’s powers instead of giving in to your humble love for us.  Amen.  (A time for silent prayers of confession)

 Assurance Of God’s Forgiveness

Leader:   With God, the impossible is made possible!  Even when our hearts are closed to God, even when we cannot see the Spirit’s presence in our midst, still, God is here with us, ready to catch us when we fall, and comfort us when we grieve.  What a gift, indeed!

 Reading Of The Scripture: Genesis 37: 1-4, 12-28 (O.T., pg. 32)

A Time For Children

Anthem:   “I Will Rise”………………………… Tomlin

Soloist: Kyleigh

Reading Of The Gospel:   Matthew 14: 22-33 (N.T., pg. 15)

We Reflect On New Possibilities

Message For This Day

*Hymn: “Give to the Winds Thy Fears”………………..#815

Pastoral Prayer And The Lord’s Prayer

(Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.  Thy kingdom come.  Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread.  And forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.  And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.  For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever.  Amen.)

Our Offering: Our financial offering is one way that our members participate in the mission and ministry of this church. We thank you for your financial support.  For those of you who are visiting, please feel no need to participate in the offering.  This worship service is our gift to you.

Offertory:     “Let the Waters Rise………………..……Glover

Soloist: Kyleigh

*Doxology: “Praise God, from Whom All Blessings” ………..….#606

 *Prayer Of Dedication

Leader:   Generous God, you call us to many forms of response in your world, and so, we give of ourselves in whatever way is possible:  through our talents, money, spiritual gifts, compassion, and vision for love’s reign, anew in the world.  We ask that you take these simple gifts, stitched together with great hope, and patch them together into offerings of love for the world.  Amen.

We Go Forth To Live Transformed Lives

*Closing Hymn: “When Peace like a River” ………….#840

Leader:   Go out from this place, open to the brokenness in your midst.  Go out, ready to answer, “I am here, God; I will not close my eyes, or ignore the difficult truths that you long for me to see.”  As you go, know that the love of God surrounds you, the peace of the Christ empowers you, and the fellowship of the Spirit moves within you, and all of creation, now and always.  Amen.

*Choral Benediction: “Let All Things Now Living”……………#37, v 2

*Chime Meditation

*Where noted, please stand if able.
