Faith Is . . .
Visitors: Welcome to our church. Please sign our guest book! If you do not have a church home, we pray that you will find one with us. We have large-print bulletins available, as well as hearing assistance devices. Please ask an usher if you require either of these. Restrooms are located in the church school building. Go through the door next to the choir loft, and straight ahead. We also have restrooms downstairs in Fellowship Hall. Again, exit through the door next to the choir loft, turn left down the hall, and go down the steps.
*Where noted, please stand if able.
We Gather In Awe And Wonder
Chime Interlude And Candle Lighting
Leader: Loving Spirit, you have chosen us to receive your light, and we light a candle as a sign of our gratitude.
All: Friend, Advocate, Guide—Lord Jesus you enfold us in your love, and we light a candle to celebrate your Presence, in which we rest.
Leader: Holy God, you have drawn us to your wonder, as you set your seal upon us in our baptism. We light a candle in amazement that you care for each and every one of us, as your own child.
All: We light three candles for the Holy Trinity that loves, redeems, and sustains us.
*Call To Worship
One: Our faith brings us together this day.
All: By faith. . .
One: our ancestors learned to trust in God.
All: By faith . . .
One: people have dared to journey into unknown places.
All: By faith . . .
One: prophets have spoken God’s word.
All: By faith . . .
One: God’s people gather to worship. And so . . .
All: by faith . . .
One: let us worship God!
*Hymn: “Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah”…………………….……#65
One: God of eternal promises, you have been with your people in all times and places. You have called us, and we have responded. Open us to your life-giving grace. Empower us with the faith that supports us when we feel unsure, that dares to challenge things that need to change, and that always reminds us you are never, ever far away. Amen.
We Recognize Our Brokenness
Prayer Of Confession
One: Forgive us, God, when our worship is hollow, when our holy days have lost their meaning, when our thoughts are not on your will but instead on serving our own desires. Forgive us when we ignore your teaching. Forgive us when we think that paying you lip service will make up for all we have done wrong. Call us back. Give us another chance to serve you: to do good, to seek justice, to rescue the oppressed, to plead for those who are silenced. Wash us clean, and make us new. We pray in Jesus’ name. Amen. (A time for silent prayers of confession.)
Assurance Of God’s Forgiveness
One: Faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. Know that God’s forgiveness is beyond our perception and understanding but is as real as the air we breathe. God is not ashamed to be called our God.
All: Thanks be to God. Amen.
