Easter: Christ Is Risen

Visitors: Welcome to our church.  Please sign our guest book!  If you do not have a church home, we pray that you will find one with us.  We have large-print bulletins available, as well as hearing assistance devices.  Please ask an usher if you require either of these.  Restrooms are located in the church school building.  Go through the door next to the choir loft, and straight ahead.  We also have restrooms downstairs in Fellowship Hall.  Again, exit through the door next to the choir loft, turn left down the hall, and go down the steps.

*Call To Worship

One: God has promised:  “I am about to create new heavens and a new earth; the former things shall not be remembered or come to mind.

All: “Be glad and rejoice forever in what I am creating; for I am about to create Jerusalem as a joy, and its people as a delight.

One: “I will rejoice in Jerusalem and delight in my people; no more shall the sound of weeping be heard in it, or the cry of distress.

All: “No more shall there be in it an infant that lives but a few days, or an old person who does not live out a lifetime.

One: “They shall build houses and inhabit them.  They shall plant vineyards and eat their fruit.  Come, then, people of God, let us raise an “Alleluia” for the new thing God is doing in our lives.  Christ is risen.

All: He is risen indeed!

*Hymn: “Jesus Christ Is Risen Today”……..………………………….……#232

One: Today is a day for praise, Holy Creator!  So, we thank you!  For the new beginnings you have set before us – new opportunities, new adventures, new relationships, and new joys.

All: we thank you.

One: For the delight you have returned to each of us in our time – healing our hearts, our bodies, and Earth,

All: we thank you.

One: For the tears you have wiped from our eyes – the comfort you have sent to us through your beauty, your creatures, and your people,

All: we thank you.

One: And for coming to be among us as Jesus, the Christ, even when we did not and do not deserve such love,

All: we thank you!

One: We raise our Alleluias in thanksgiving, today, and give praise to you, Loving God!

All: Alleluia!  Alleluia!  Amen.

We Recognize Our Brokenness

Prayer Of Confession

All: We confess, Eternal Creator, that even 2000 years later, we expect to find the tomb closed and full of the death we experience all around us.  We do not expect new life today.  We have arrived on this morning, like Mary, ready to be weighed down by the realities of our world.  We confess that part of our spirit remains unable to comprehend you right here, with us, risen.  Forgive us, we pray.  Amen.  (A time for silent prayers of confession.)

Assurance Of God’s Forgiveness

One: There is only one assurance we need today:  Christ is risen!  Christ is risen.  With open hearts, eyes, and minds, we believe the risen Christ is with us.  Christ has risen!  Alleluia.  Amen.

Reading Of The Scripture:   Acts 10: 34-43 (N.T., pg. 121)

Our Offering: Our financial offering is one way that our members participate in the mission and ministry of this church. We thank you for your financial support.  For those of you who are visiting, please feel no need to participate in the offering.  This worship service is our gift to you.

*Prayer Of Dedication

One: On this day of celebration, we bring not only our offerings but also our lives.  We dedicate ourselves anew today to be the love that rises after death.  We dedicate our hearts to continuing to respond to a broken world with compassion and hope.  We dedicate our very souls to fulfilling your resurrection in the world.  Bless all these offerings, we pray.  Amen.

The Order Of Holy Communion

Leader: Good Friday is past, we celebrate on this side of the cross, and we speak of life from death.  Come now to the feast of life that takes all our past and redeems it with life.  Come to the table for the host is waiting with the bread of life and the cup of salvation.  All are welcome at this table.

*Thanksgiving Prayer

Leader: Jesus—companion and Savior—unfolder of alleluias, bread-breaker, life-giver, grave-dancer, wine-sharer, stone-roller, gardener, returned.  Here is our thanksgiving gathering with all those who have ever gathered round this table meeting your promise in this story that pulls death from the world and redeems it with life.  May this bread break open your wondrous story.  As we share it, we give thanks for what has been done for us.  May this wine spill your promise into the world.  As we share it, we give thanks for what you have done for us.  Great God of resurrection bringing life from death,  light from shadows,  adventures from question, authenticity from lies,  we sing with all the angels,

All: Holy, holy, holy God of new and transforming life, heaven and earth are full of your glory, hosanna in the highest.  Blessed is the one who comes in your name, O God:  hosanna in the highest.

Leader: In our thanksgiving may we live as the Body of Christ within the new covenant sealed for all for the forgiveness of sins.  We remember Jesus the Christ always.  And so we proclaim the mystery of our faith:

All: Christ has died.

  Christ is risen.

Christ will come again.  (Please be seated.)

All: Gracious God, we praise, worship and adore you for the food received at your table.  You have sent your Holy Spirit among us to make our meal at this table a memorial of our Lord Jesus Christ.  We go from here, strengthened, refreshed, and empowered by your Spirit to make our living and working, our loving and doing and thinking, a true and joyful ministry in your name.  Amen.

We Go Forth To Live Transformed lives

*Closing Hymn: “Thine Is the Glory” …..………….……..….#238
