We are wrapping up the month of February, in which the theme was our journey with Jesus to the cross. We are spending Feb. and March with activities and lessons tied to Holy Week, so we are prepared for Palm Sunday, Holy Week, and Easter in April. We had a cooking lesson in which the children made soft pretzels. Pretzels were invented by monks, who used simple dough to remind them of the need to pray. The pretzels are made to imitate arms crossed in prayer, a gesture familiar to the monks. The children sang in church, “Father Abraham”, which reinforced the January theme of Abraham and Sarah, and all their descendents as promised by God. This morning the childen played a game in which balloons were blown up and then popped, to reveal which child was “Judas.” We continue the Holy Week themes in March.
