New Beginnings Sunday

Visitors: Welcome to our church.  Please sign our guest book!  If you do not have a church home, we pray that you will find one with us.  We have large-print bulletins available, as well as hearing assistance devices.  Please ask an usher if you require either of these.  Restrooms are located in the church school building.  Go through the door next to the choir loft, and straight ahead.  We also have restrooms downstairs in Fellowship Hall.  Again, exit through the door next to the choir loft, turn left down the hall, and go down the steps.

 Chime Interlude And Candle Lighting

Leader:   In a season of harvest we light a candle of gratitude for God’s goodness.

People:  In a season busy with school, work, and preparation for holidays, we light a candle reminding us to call on Christ for strength to continue our Christian journey.

Leader:   In a season where the hills around us are clad in beauty, we invoke the Spirit’s presence so we can somehow share that beauty with the world.

*Call To Worship

One:       The legs of the crickets and the wings of insects beat out praise.

All:         Holy, Holy, Holy!  Earth dances with your wisdom.

One:       The leaves rustle in the wind and the flowers bloom in exultation.

All:         Holy, Holy, Holy!  Earth revels in your glory.

One:       The lion roars and the gazelle leaps in joy.

All:         Holy, Holy, Holy!  Creation amazes in your inspiration.

One:       The whale intones ballads from the deep and the lark lilts at dawn.

All:         Holy, Holy, Holy!  Creation sings by your redemption.

One:       Let us celebrate with all the songs and dances of creation as divine Wisdom calls us to this worship together.  Amen.

*Hymn: “In the Midst of New Dimensions” ……………….……#315

Leader:   Come, Creator Spirit, and move over this chaotic world.

People:  Come, Creator Spirit, and bring life to this world.

Leader:   Come, Creator Spirit, and move over the chaos of our lives.

People:  Come, Creator Spirit, and bring us new life.  Amen.

We Recognize Our Brokenness

Prayer Of Confession

Leader:   O Great Provider and Enjoyer of Creation, we confess that we have been inconsiderate of the plants and animals with whom we share this great garden.  We have trampled on the grass and not stopped to revel in its flowers.  We have treated your creation as ours to use and misuse and not show our gratitude.  God, help us to see each living thing as a living testimony to your wisdom and a witness to your abundant love.  May our lives be shaped by this wisdom and love.  Amen.   (A time for silent prayers of confession.)

 Assurance Of God’s Forgiveness

Leader:   All the promises of God find their “Yes” in Christ.  That is why we utter the “Amen” through him, to the glory of God.  It is God who has put his seal upon us and given us his Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee.

People:  In Christ, by the power of the Spirit, we are redeemed.  Praise God, from whom all blessings flow!

Message For This Day

 *Hymn: “O Lord My God”…………………………..#625

Prayers Of Creation And The Lord’s Prayer

Leader:   Wisdom, whose joy gives us the day’s feast and whose discernment seeks justice for all, we thank you for the goodness of creation.  You have connected us to each other in ways we could not have imagined or sought ourselves.  When we feel isolated, you remind us we are not alone and prod us to be better members of this blessed family of creation.  We lift up those who find themselves on the fringes:  For those who have fallen ill, who are weakened by hunger, debt, and hopelessness.  For those who feel lost, by grief, in addiction, or ignored by powers and principalities. For those who are deceived by their own power, seeking profit and esteem only for themselves and their friends.  Wisdom, who weaves us in and out of the life that God created and called good, mend the loose threads of this web of life we call home, and tighten the bonds that bring us into loving relationship with one another.  Amen.

(Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.  Thy kingdom come.  Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread.  And forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.  And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.  For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever.  Amen.)

Our Offering: Our financial offering is one way that our members participate in the mission and ministry of this church. We thank you for your financial support.  For those of you who are visiting, please feel no need to participate in the offering. This worship service is our gift to you.

 Offertory:   “I’d Rather Have Jesus”…………..Miller/Martin

Zion’s Men

*Doxology: “Praise God, from Whom All Blessings” ……..….#606

*Prayer Of Dedication

Leader:   We offer these gifts as the grass grows tall for the cattle and the vine makes grapes to gladden our hearts.  As the water brings abundance to the trees and the trees give shelter to the birds, take our offerings as a pledge to flourish under your care, and to give generously to all that live around us.  Amen.

We Go Forth To Live Transformed Lives

*Closing Hymn: “To God Be the Glory”. …………….#634

Pastor:   May the God who frees the hawk to soar, who waters the tree to shelter the bird, who clothes the grass with lilies, open your spirit to the wisdom and joy abundant in creation, and freely given to you in grace.  Amen.

*Choral Benediction: “Go in the Grace of the Lord”……………….Barnard
