God in the Heartbeat of Life

Visitors: Welcome to our church.  Please sign our guest book!  If you do not have a church home, we pray that you will find one with us.  We have large-print bulletins available, as well as hearing assistance devices.  Please ask an usher if you require either of these.  Restrooms are located in the church school building.  Go through the door next to the choir loft, and straight ahead.  We also have restrooms downstairs in Fellowship Hall.  Again, exit through the door next to the choir loft, turn left down the hall, and go down the steps.

We Gather In Awe And Wonder

Chime Interlude And Candle Lighting Response

Leader:   We light a light in the name of the God who made heaven and earth.

All:         We light a light in the name of our Lord, whose love has been poured into our hearts.

Leader:   We light a light in the name of the Holy Spirit, who leads us into all truth.

All:         We light three candles because all praise and glory is yours, O God – Creator, Redeemer and Sanctifier.

Praise Response:   “For the Life That You Have Given”……..#717

*Call To Worship

One:       Here we are God, with our bits of faith and our pieces of hope.

All:         Here we are God, in our giving and taking moods.

One:       God, will you be here with us as we talk, dream, listen, sing, and pray?

All:         God, will you come and join us?  Will you hold and comfort, push and poke us, speak to us, feed us?

One:       Here we are God,

All:         in the name of Jesus the Christ.  Amen.

*Hymn: “Take Up Your Cross, the Savior Said” …………………#718

One:       Ah, God of every moment and every day, you are more real to us than our breathing, more constant than our heartbeat, more present to us than our senses, yet more mysterious than we can comprehend.

Two:      Dare we ask that your presence be known among us?

One:       In justice, fairness and goodness, and where wrongs are put right we know you are near.

Two:      Love and gentleness, kindness and courage imprint your image on every part of life, and we know you are near.

All:         We praise you.  We listen for you.  We attend to your pulse in the whole of life.  Amen.

We Recognize Our Brokenness

 Prayer Of Confession

Leader:   Gracious God, you have called us to be a new community in Christ, and yet we remain divided.  Forgive us our fear, anxiety, prejudice, and misunderstandings.  Strengthen our common bonds and deepen our resolve to promote the unity of your church.

All:         Amen.  (A time for silent prayers of confession)

 Assurance Of God’s Forgiveness

One:       As Christ is present in all time, so, too, is the mystery of God’s grace.  God’s love draws us into life.  Put all fear aside.  We are forgiven.

All:         Praise be to God for the mystery of grace.

Pastoral Prayer And The Lord’s Prayer

(Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.  Thy kingdom come.  Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread.  And forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.  And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.  For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever.  Amen.)

Our Offering: Our financial offering is one way that our members participate in the mission and ministry of this church. We thank you for your financial support.  For those of you who are visiting, please feel no need to participate in the offering.  This worship service is our gift to you.

*Doxology: “Praise God, from Whom All Blessings” ……..….#606

 *Prayer Of Dedication

One:       Our money may show the face of rulers or even say “in God we trust,” yet it is our lives that carry the imprint of the Holy One.

All:         We cannot see God’s face yet our hearts beat with the life of God.  With all that we are, we seek to show God’s love to all.

We Go Forth To Live Transformed Lives

*Closing Hymn: “God of Grace and God of Glory”……………….#307

Leader:   Go into the world in peace.  Be confident in the presence of God.  Act justly.  Be fair.  Show forgiveness.  Right wrongs.  Live as if God beats within your hearts.  The blessing of God’s gentle hand, the wisdom of God’s living Christ and the power of God’s own Spirit be with you, always.

All:         Amen.
