Reign of Christ

Visitors: Welcome to our church.  Please sign our guest book!  If you do not have a church home, we pray that you will find one with us.  We have large-print bulletins available, as well as hearing assistance devices.  Please ask an usher if you require either of these.  Restrooms are located in the church school building.  Go through the door next to the choir loft, and straight ahead.  We also have restrooms downstairs in Fellowship Hall.  Again, exit through the door next to the choir loft, turn left down the hall, and go down the steps.

We Gather In Awe And Wonder

Prelude

Announcements

Chime Interlude And Candle Lighting

Leader:   In a season of harvest we light a candle of gratitude for God’s goodness.

People:  In a season busy with school, work, and preparation for holidays, we light a candle reminding us to call on Christ for strength to continue our Christian journey.

Leader:   In a season where the hills around us are clad in beauty, we invoke the Spirit’s presence so we can somehow share that beauty with the world.

Voice 2:  Come, let us worship the One who acts justly.

All:         Let us follow the One who shows us how to act justly.

*Hymn: “We Gather Together”…………… ………….……#336

*Invocation

Leader:   God of life, thank you for leading us to your way of justice, peace, love, and truth.  You have given us examples of how we can live.  You have taught us about truth.  You have given us a glimpse of your reign, of your possibilities, and your promise.  Help us to follow your example and to follow your way.  Amen.

We Recognize Our Brokenness

Prayer Of Confession

Leader:   God of grace, sometimes we can become overwhelmed by the problems in this world, and so we do nothing.  We can stray from following your way.  We can ignore your truths.  We think that our ways are the best way.  Forgive us, God.  Help us and correct us.  Guide us on your path of peace and justice so that we can work towards your reign here on Earth.  Amen.   (A time for silent prayers of confession.)

Assurance Of God’s Forgiveness

Leader:   Hear the good news:  God has made a covenant with us; an everlasting promise.  God promises to help us.  God promises to bring order where there has been disorder.  And God promises to be with us always. And God has promised us full pardon for our sins.

Reading Of The Scripture:   Psalm 132 (O.T., pg. 542)

Faith Lesson For All Ages

Anthem:   “Come Ye Sinners Poor and Needy”…………….…Hart/Sorenson

Reading Of The Gospel:   John 18: 33-37 (N.T., pg. 106)

Pilate:     Come, Jesus, come into my headquarters.

Jesus:      I am here.

Pilate:     I am Pilate.  I am a political leader.  Who are you?

Jesus:      Are you asking this question on your own?

Pilate:     Tell me who you are.  Do you think you are a king of your people?

Jesus:      Did others tell you about me?

Pilate:     Your people and your leaders handed you over to me.

Jesus:      I am here.

Pilate:     You must have done something wrong.

Jesus:      I imagine another world, a realm where there is justice and peace.

Pilate:     Are you a king?

Jesus:      You say that I am a king.

Pilate:     What have you done?

Jesus:      My followers know that I have done nothing wrong.

Pilate:     Why are you here?

Jesus:      I imagine another realm.  And, I came into the world to tell the truth.

Pilate:     What truth?

Jesus:      Everyone who belongs to the truth listens to my voice.

Pilate:     Why do people listen to you?

Jesus:      I show another way.

Holiday Home Bureau does not need us to donate these.)  The LEGOs can be for either girls or boys or unisex…small sets to large sets to starter sets.  We are also collecting NEW hats, gloves, scarves for those 12 and under.  There will be a display in church to offer some samples.  We (and the United Way) DO NOT want the GENERIC Legos. In addition, the program is seeking monetary donations to support its food certificate program (they provide $25 food certificates).  Please bring the donations to the church no later than 12/2/18.  We will bring the items forward during the children’s message on that Sunday.  Any questions, please ask Gina or Chris.

As Gifts For Baby Jesus, we will be collecting gifts for the clients of Children’s Aid Society in New Oxford. Any extras that we provide that they cannot use for their current clients will be placed in their clothing closet (God’s Closet).  The closet is open to families in need as well as Children and Youth Case Workers that can use the closet to supply clothing to foster children and families in their care.  The items they have requested are new pajamas and new toys for boys/girls ages 5-10 years of age.  Please do not wrap them.  Donations will be accepted by Jessica up until the Birthday Party on December 2; I will drop off the donation that week.  Many thanks as always for your support and generosity!

We Have All Known The Power And Promise Of Prayers – especially when others pray for us in times of need. It has been decided to send cards to people for whom we are praying; ones who are not Zion members.  So if you are placing someone on the prayer list, if possible have the address ready so it can be communicated via the prayer chain.  Obviously this will not be possible or desirable in every case.  Lois Hartzel will be sending the cards.
