What We Know
Sacrament of Baptism
Visitors: Welcome to our church. Please sign our guest book! If you do not have a church home, we pray that you will find one with us. We have large-print bulletins available, as well as hearing assistance devices. Please ask an usher if you require either of these. Restrooms are located in the church school building. Go through the door next to the choir loft, and straight ahead. We also have restrooms downstairs in Fellowship Hall. Again, exit through the door next to the choir loft, turn left down the hall, and go down the steps.
We Gather In Awe And Wonder
Prelude: “Rock of Ages” (Forgiven and Free)……………. H. Sorenson
Chime Interlude And Candle Lighting
Leader: Loving Spirit, you have chosen us to receive your light, and we light a candle as a sign of our gratitude.
All: Friend, Advocate, Guide—Lord Jesus you enfold us in your love, and we light a candle to celebrate your Presence, in which we rest.
Leader: Holy God, you have drawn us to your wonder, as you set your seal upon us in our baptism. We light a candle in amazement that you care for each and every one of us, as your own child.
All: We light three candles for the Holy Trinity that loves, redeems, and sustains us.
Response: “Lord, Prepare Me“…………………….#701
*Call To Worship
Leader: Lord, you are the God of the complex – galaxies and nebulas and quantum physics. Lord, you are the God of the simple – bread made from grain, wine made from grapes. You are the God of the extraordinary – DNA, cells and subatomic material. You are the God of the ordinary – daisies, dirt, and dandelions. You are the God who blesses us with the richness of the earth, and you are the God who chose to live in poverty.
People: You are the God that searches for the lost and you are the God who loses his life so that we might be found.
*Hymn: “How Firm a Foundation”……….. ………………#463
Leader: God of all, faith is a union of opposites; knowing you is like struggling with an enigma, and knowing you is as easy as breathing. We seek you in the straightforward and in the complicated, we desire to see clearly and be open to mystery, to dwell in your realm and be a servant to all, to be child-like in our faith and adult in its application, to love without attachment, to be strong in our weakness. Be with us today as we find our way through. Amen.
We Recognize Our Brokenness
Prayer Of Confession
Leader: God of mercy, sometimes we are slaves to what we know. We know life is colourful, yet we like to see things as black and white.
People: We know some behaviours are dangerous and detrimental, yet we do them anyway.
Leader: We know people are imperfect, yet we get so outraged when these imperfections arise.
People: We know life throws us curve balls, yet we are shattered when things aren’t smooth sailing.
Leader: We know happiness can’t be bought, yet we go shopping.
People: We know that there is always something to learn, yet we resist being educated. (A time for silent prayers of confession.)
Assurance Of God’s Forgiveness
Leader: Children of God, you can be confident in these things – today is the day of salvation and God looks upon you with loving-kindness, there is no restriction to God’s affection for you. Open your hearts to know forgiveness and be restored. Amen.
Reading Of The Scripture: 2 Corinthians 6: 1-13 (N.T., pg. 171)
Anthem: “Home”…………………….. H. Sorenson
The Sacrament Of Baptism For
Born February 22, 2018, to Gregg and Samantha
Leader: They were bringing children to Jesus that Jesus might touch them; and the disciples rebuked them. But when Jesus saw it, Jesus was indignant, and said to them,
People: “Let the children come to me, do not hinder them; for to such belongs the realm of God. Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the realm of God like a child shall not enter it.”
Leader: And Jesus took them in his arms and blessed them, laying his hands upon them.
Leader: The sacrament of baptism is an outward and visible sign of the grace of God. Inasmuch as the promise of the gospel is not only to us but also to our children, baptism with water and the Holy Spirit is the mark of their acceptance into the care of Christ’s church, the sign and seal of their participation in God’s forgiveness, and the beginning of their growth into full Christian faith and discipleship.
People: This is the water of baptism. Out of this water we rise with new life, forgiven of sin and one in Christ, members of Christ’s body.
Questions For The Family
Pastor: Do you desire to have Jameson baptized into the faith and family of Jesus Christ?
Family: We do.
Pastor: Will you encourage Jameson to renounce the powers of evil and to receive the freedom of new life in Christ?
Family: We will, with the help of God.
Pastor: Will you teach him that he may be led to profess Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior?
Family: We will, with the help of God.
Pastor: Do you promise, according to the grace given you, to grow with Jameson in the Christian faith, to help him to be a faithful member of the church of Jesus Christ by celebrating Christ’s presence, by furthering Christ’s mission in all the world, and by offering the nurture of the Christian church so that he may affirm his baptism?
Family: We do, with the help of God.
*Congregational Assent (Please stand)
Leader: Jesus Christ calls us to make disciples of all nations and to offer them the gift of grace in baptism. Do you, who witness and celebrate this sacrament, promise your love, support, and care to the one about to be baptized, as he lives and grows in Christ?
People: We promise our love, support, and care. (Please be seated)
Blessing Of The Water
Pastor: Bless by your Holy Spirit, gracious God, this water. By your Holy Spirit save those who confess the name of Jesus Christ that sin may have no power over them. Create new life in the one baptized this day that he may rise in Christ. Glory to you, eternal God, the one who was, and is, and shall always be, world without end. Amen.
Act Of Baptism
Prayer For The Baptized
Pastor: We give you thanks, O Holy One, mother and father of all the faithful, for this your child and for the grace acknowledged here today in water and the Holy Spirit. Embrace us all as sons and daughters in the one household of your love. Grant us grace to receive, nurture, and befriend these new members of the body of Christ.
All: Give to the newly baptized: strength for life’s journey, courage in time of suffering, the joy of faith, the freedom of love, and the hope of new life: through Jesus Christ, who makes us one. Amen.
*Baptism Hymn: “These Treasured Children”…………..….…..#487
Reading Of The Gospel: Mark 4: 35-41 (N.T., pg. 36)

Message For This Day
*Hymn: “My Life Flows On”……………………….#821
Pastoral Prayer And The Lord’s Prayer
(Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.)
Our Offering: Our financial offering is one way that our members participate in the mission and ministry of this church. We thank you for your financial support. For those of you who are visiting, please feel no need to participate in the offering. This worship service is our gift to you.
*Doxology: “Praise God, from Whom All Blessings” ………….#606
*Prayer Of Dedication
Leader: We know these our gifts make a difference to those in need. We give them confidently and with love. Amen.
We Go Forth To Live Transformed Lives
*Closing Hymn: “Give to the Winds Thy Fears” ………………….#815
Leader: Knowing and unknowing are the union of opposites that brings us closer to God. By knowing the love of God we can travel to unknown places and into unknown circumstances confident that God goes with us. Go in peace.
*Choral Benediction: “God Be with You Till We Meet Again”…………#541, v. 2
*Where noted, please stand if able.
My child, do not despise the Lord’s discipline or be weary of his reproof, for the Lord reproves the one he loves, as a father the son in whom he delights. Proverbs 3: 11-12

Today, June 24, at 6 p.m. we kick off the summer season by inviting our local first responders, Fire and EMT, to join us for good food and fun. They are invited to bring their families, as well. This will be a great family event, with a fire engine, games, and the opportunity to enjoy getting to know our first responders who serve our community so well. If you would like to help with this event, please let Debra or Kim know. The other dates for hot dog roasts are July 29 and August 26.
