Prayerful Disciples

Visitors: Welcome to our church.  Please sign our guest book!  If you do not have a church home, we pray that you will find one with us.  We have large-print bulletins available, as well as hearing assistance devices.  Please ask an usher if you require either of these.  Restrooms are located in the church school building.  Go through the door next to the choir loft, and straight ahead.  We also have restrooms downstairs in Fellowship Hall.  Again, exit through the door next to the choir loft, turn left down the hall, and go down the steps.

*Where noted, please stand if able.

We Gather In Awe And Wonder

Chime Interlude And Candle Lighting

Leader: Loving Spirit, you have chosen us to receive your light, and we light a candle as a sign of our gratitude.

All: Friend, Advocate, Guide—Lord Jesus you enfold us in your love, and we light a candle to celebrate your Presence, in which we rest.

Leader: Holy God, you have drawn us to your wonder, as you set your seal upon us in our baptism.  We light a candle in amazement that you care for each and every one of us, as your own child.

All: We light three candles for the Holy Trinity that loves, redeems, and sustains us.

*Call To Worship

One: One day, God’s reign will come to pass:

All: Love and faithfulness will come together.  Justice and peace will be as one.

One: A time will come when those who have felt distanced from God will feel at home again.

All: Love and faithfulness will come together.  Justice and peace will be as one.

One: God’s glory will dwell in our land, and truth shall spring up from the earth.

All: Love and faithfulness will come together.  Justice and peace will be as one.

One: The time is now!  God’s reign is here!

All: Come, let us worship God!

*Hymn: “What a Friend We Have In Jesus”…………….……#465

One: Dear God, for these three things we pray:  to love you more dearly, see you more clearly, and follow you more nearly every day.  Amen.

We Recognize Our Brokenness

Prayer Of Confession

One: When we speak in anger or hatred, and when our words cause division,

All: forgive us, and teach us your way, O God.

One: When we treat others with contempt or violence, or simply ignore them,

All: forgive us, and teach us your way, O God.

One: When we take more than our share of resources, and others must bear the burden,

All: forgive us, and teach us your way, O God.

One: When we do not live in love and peace, choosing fear and injustice instead,

All: forgive us, and teach us your way, O God.

One: When we know that you are calling us, and we choose not to follow,

All: forgive us, and teach us your way, O God.  (A time for silent prayers of confession.)

Assurance Of God’s Forgiveness

One: In the letter to the Colossians we read that, through faith in Christ, our sins are forgiven.  God overlooks all we have done in the past and invites us into a new beginning.

All: Thanks be to God.  Amen.

Pastoral Prayer And The Lord’s Prayer

(Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come.  Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread.  And forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.  And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.  For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever.  Amen.)

Our Offering: Our financial offering is one way that our members participate in the mission and ministry of this church. We thank you for your financial support.  For those of you who are visiting, please feel no need to participate in the offering.  This worship service is our gift to you.

We Go Forth To Live Transformed lives

*Closing Hymn: “Precious Lord, Take My Hand” ……….……..….#834

One: Once we were no people,

All: but now we know we belong to God.

One: Once we had no place,

All: but now we know we live in the reign of God.

One: Once we had nothing,

All: but now we know that in Christ Jesus we are raised to new life.

One: Go, then, to live and celebrate the love of God in all you do, that truth might spring up from the earth, righteousness look down from heaven, and justice and peace might come together in a holy embrace.  Amen.

Neighbors Helping Neighbors – Hospice Volunteering can make such a difference not only in the lives of those needing support, but also in your life! SpiriTrust Lutheran Home Care & Hospice is looking for caring individuals interested in serving our local Adams County community by becoming hospice volunteers.  Our volunteers are part of the SpiriTrust Lutheran Home Care & Hospice team and provide emotional support to clients and their families, relief to caregivers, and friendship at a time when companionship is needed most.  All volunteers receive specialized training before assignment to client and families.  Volunteer training is FREE, and the next session is scheduled for September 16th & September 23rd from noon – 3:00 pm at SpiriTrust Lutheran, The Village at Gettysburg, 1075 Old Harrisburg Rd., Gettysburg, PA.  Please consider becoming part of this life-changing ministry by calling our Volunteer Coordinator at 717-680-0301.

His blend of youth and maturity leads to often inspiring and fascinating interpretations of the scripture providing new pictures and new understandings of the gospel. Pastor Seibert is very involved in cooperative ministry efforts including John’s Meals and UACT. The Upper Adams Prayer Group has gathered for over 30 years and will meet on Tuesday, August 6th at the Apple Bin Restaurant on Rt. 234 outside Biglerville.
