Call to Worship

Leader:  We gather in the name of Jesus Christ.

People:  Members of God’s family and brothers and sisters to one

Leader:  There are no outsiders here among us.

People:  All are welcome in the household of God.

Leader:  For we have been brought together by the redeeming love of Jesus.

Opening Prayer:

Leader: Miraculous God, come to us now, even as Jesus came to those first disciples on the shores of Galilee. Speak your peace to our hearts. Touch us with your Holy Spirit. Reveal your word, that we may hear your message this day, and live as your disciples in the days and years to come. In Christ’s name, we pray. Amen.

Hymn# 302 “When Hands Reach Out and Fingers Trace”, Carolyn W. Gillette, John Weaver, ©1990 Hope Publishing Co., text ©2001 Carolyn W. Gillette

Prayer of Confession:

Wandering God of wilderness and exiles, we confess we try to confine you to buildings and familiar structures, religions and denominations.  We release you. (open hands).

Help us imagine you wherever you are. (pause)

(entwine fingers again.)

Mysterious God who is beyond explanation, we try to limit you to theologies and doctrines, well-worn answers and personal opinions.  We release you. (open hands)

Help us imagine you wherever you are. (pause)

Here is the good news:  Christ has broken down the walls that confine and limit.  In Christ, that which is separated comes together.  In Christ we discover that in all places and at all times the Spirit of God is found.

ALL:  Thanks be to God!

       Leader: Lift up your hearts!

       All: Let God be praised!

Give Thanks with a grateful heart; give thanks to the Holy One.

Give thanks because we’re given Jesus Christ, the Son. (repeat these two lines)

Because of what the Lord has done for us!” (repeat these two lines)

Give thanks.  Give thanks.

The Bake Sale is Back!  Don’t forget to mark your calendars and dig out those favorite recipes.  Zion is holding a bake sale at McDannell’s Farm Market on August 1st!  Freshly baked items can be dropped off in the Sunday School room the afternoon/evening of July 31st or before worship on August 1st.  Then come on out to McDannell’s following worship and satisfy your sweet tooth!  There will also be horse-drawn wagon rides, a food truck, and the opportunity for pictures with Sasquatch.  Proceeds from the Bake Sale will support the purchase of headsets for UASD elementary school children who need them.

Lectio Divina – Is your prayer life stale?  Spice it up learning a new spiritual discipline with a group from church and Rev. Heather.  We will begin the spiritual practice of Lectio Davina.  Lectio is a time where we read scripture, share a word from the passage that is meaningful to each individual, and what you can take away from the scripture for the week.  Afterwards, we will pray together.  This Spiritual discipline will be 4 Tuesdays in August – the 3rd, 10th, 17th, and 24th.  We will meet at 7 p.m. at church.  Our time together will vary depending on how many people show up.  My guess is at the most we will last an hour.  Please let Heather know if you are planning to attend at revzionucc@gmail.com.  Thanks!

Get your bucket here!  In lieu of Vacation Bible School this year, Zion is providing children with an activity a day for 5 days, all packed in a bucket!  Buckets will be distributed to children after church on July 18th on a first come, first serve basis.  Come pick up a bucket of fun!  Then come back on July 25 to return your helping hand handprint!

Visitors – We’re glad you stopped in.  Don’t forget to help yourselves to a welcome packet on the credenza in the back of church!
