Call to Worship

Leader:  Sing a new song to our God!

People:  Song of celebration, songs of joy!

Leader:  Gather all the melodies together into one great harmony of praise.

People:  Let the music of our hearts become part of God’s great song, pulsing through all creation.

Leader:  Sing a new song to our God!

People:  Songs of celebration, songs of joy!

Opening PrayerLoving God, increase our faith as we gather as your people.  Pour forth your love upon us and shower us with gifts of the Spirit.  In or turning to you, grace us this hour with your abounding joy.  Fill us with kindness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.  Strengthened in faith, may we share your generosity with all the world.

Hymn# 611 “Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee”, H. van Dyke, 1907, L. van Beethoven 1824, public domain

Prayer of Confession:

Embracing God, You have adopted us into your family. Yet we neglect our own families both in our homes and in our communities, we have hurt, we have harbored ill will, we have neglected, isolating and ostracizing Your children, our Christian siblings.  Forgive us, eternal Parent, and help us to renounce society’s ways and return to Your way of seeing others as Your precious children, family in Christ.  Amen.

Leader: The abundance of God is astonishing and extravagant.  Hear and know that our God longs for joy to be in our hearts and hands, so that others may also know God’s bountiful gifts.  Be free in Christ!  Amen.

       Leader: Lift up your hearts!

       All: Let God be praised!

Doxology: #647 “Give Thanks”

Henry Smith, ©1978 Integrity’s Hosanna! Music; CCLI #1149146

Give Thanks with a grateful heart; give thanks to the Holy One.

Give thanks because we’re given Jesus Christ, the Son. (repeat these two lines)

And now let the weak say, “We are strong”; let the poor say, “We are rich

Because of what the Lord has done for us!” (repeat these two lines)

Give thanks.  Give thanks.

Prayer of Dedication

Gracious Lord of all, we, your children, offer up our gifts of thanks for calling us to be your children and to share in the responsibility of sharing the love of Christ to all we meet.  Allow these, our offerings, to be used in the mission of this church in calling others to God’s love.  In Christ’s name we pray.  Amen.

Keep Your Soda Can Tabs coming:  Just put them in the barrel on the credenza in the back of church to benefit the Ronald McDonald House.

Ladies Breakfast:  Zion’s ladies will meet for breakfast at the Apple Bin tomorrow morning at 9:00 a.m.  We are having Show and Tell!  Bring that very special item you kept for 10, 20. . . 60 years and tell us why it is special!  A picture of the item from many years ago would be terrific.  It can be anything – a baptism outfit, a piece of jewelry, an outfit you or your children wore, an item from high school or college.  Surprise us!  And bring a friend.

The Bake Sale is Back!  Don’t forget to mark your calendars and dig out those favorite recipes.  Zion is holding a bake sale at McDannell’s Farm Market on August 1st!  Freshly baked items can be dropped off in the Sunday School room the afternoon/evening of July 31st or before worship on August 1st.  Then come on out to McDannell’s following worship and satisfy your sweet tooth!  There will also be horse-drawn wagon rides, a food truck, and the opportunity for pictures with Sasquatch.

Lectio Divina – Is your prayer life stale?  Spice it up learning a new spiritual discipline with a group from church and Rev. Heather.  We will begin the spiritual practice of Lectio Davina.  Lectio is a time where we read scripture, share a word from the passage that is meaningful to each individual, and what you can take away from the scripture for the week.  Afterwards, we will pray together.  This Spiritual discipline will be 4 Tuesdays in August – the 3rd, 10th, 17th, and 24th.  We will meet at 7 p.m. at church.  Our time together will vary depending on how many people show up.  My guess is at the most we will last an hour.  Please let Heather know if you are planning to attend at revzionucc@gmail.com.  Thanks!

Get your bucket here!  In lieu of Vacation Bible School this year, Zion is providing children with an activity a day for 5 days, all packed in a bucket!  Buckets will be distributed to children after church on July 18th on a first come, first serve basis.  Come pick up a bucket of fun!  Then come back on July 25 to return your helping hand handprint!

Visitors – We’re glad you stopped in.  Don’t forget to help yourselves to a welcome packet on the credenza in the back of church.

Rev. Heather’s email address is revzionucc@gmail.com so feel free to contact her!
