Leader: Come to this place of welcome and worship.

All:  We come, seeking community –

All: We come, seeking insight –

Leader: You are welcome here.

All: We come, bringing our life stories –

Leader: You are welcome here.

All: We come, seeking God –

Leader: Let us worship together!

Leader: God of many gifts, you offer us so many things:

Left Side:  food and drink

Right Side:  gifts for ministry

Leader:  and above all:

All:  overflowing love!

Leader:  In this time of worship, open us to your Spirit, that we might experience and celebrate the many gifts you give us.

All:  In Jesus’ name we pray.  Amen.

*HYMN #837 “Leaning on the Everlasting Arms” (‘What a Fellowship, What a Joy Divine’), Elisha A. Hoffman 1887, Anthony J. Showalter 1887, public domain

Leader: God provides us more than we could ever need and yet often we are not satisfied:  we want more.  We hoard and do not share what we share.  We keep the best for ourselves and offer the second-best to God and to others.  Sometimes we feel we are of little value, forgetting that God has invested God’s very best in each one of us.  Let us take a moment in silence to confess the times when we are wasteful, when we do not share, and when we do not recognize the many gifts that God gives to us.  (Silent Prayer)

Leader: God takes delight in you and rejoices over you. God’s limitless love has the power to turn the troubled waters of resentment and fear into the wine of grace. Let us receive and celebrate this good news! Thanks be to God!  Amen!

L:  Let everything that breathes praise the Lord!

All:  Praise the LORD!

*PRAISE RESPONSE: “This Little Light of Mine” vs 1, Reader’s Digest Family Songbook of Faith and Joy, 1975, ed. Wm. Simon, public domain

This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine,

This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine,

This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine,

Every day, every day, every day.

Leader: Holy One, just as clouds release rain to the ground,

All: you nurture us and create new beginnings.

Leader: Just as the earth soaks in water and passes it on to the vine,

All: you send us blessings and nourishment to sustain us.

Leader: Just as the vine passes water on to the bud that flowers,

All: you invite us to celebrate your many gifts to us.

Leader: Just as water is passed on to the grape and permeates it with flavor,

All: you give us gifts and abilities we may not realize we have.

Leader: Just as the grapes are harvested to create something new,

All: you call us to offer our gifts in your ongoing work of transformation.

Leader: Holy One, each day, you invite us to allow the water of your goodness to flow through us and bring forth the wine of your steadfast love.

All: May we receive this invitation with joy. Amen.

Star Words:  If you missed the opportunity to pick out a star word at last week’s service, the basket is in the back of church.  Help yourself to a word, post it in an obvious place at home, and see how often its meanings are reflected in your life in the coming year!

Picture Authorization Forms:  As we work with the website developer to better show the world who Zion is and how we live in the world, the saying that a picture is worth a thousand words still rings true.  Pictures will play an important role on the website, and so legal permission must be obtained to use pictures in which church members appear.  Authorization forms are on the credenza, and the form was also attached to the most recent newsletter.  Just fill it out and drop it in the collection plate or return it to the church office.  Perhaps your smiling face will be part of Zion’s new look!

Prayer Requests:  Remember to send your prayer requests via email to the church office by Friday evening to have them included in the Sunday service.

Ladies Breakfast:  The next breakfast will be February 14th, Valentine’s Day, at 9:00 a.m. at the Apple Bin, weather permitting.  Please bring a gift that you received for Valentine’s Day, either this year, last year, or many years ago . . . a card, a lovely valentine box – maybe it had candy!   Just something that gave you pleasure on Valentine’s Day.  See you there!

Book Club:  Zion’s readers met last Thursday evening to discuss Keeping Lucy by T. Greenwood.  As always, a spirited discussion was enjoyed by everyone.  Look for the summary of that discussion on Zion’s website.  Happy reading!

Cards to non-members:  If you placed someone’s name on the prayer list who is not a member of Zion and you would like a card to be sent to that person to tell them they are being held in thought and prayer, please notify Lois Hartzel of their address.

Zion’s “Souper Bowl”:  The teams are being whittled down for the NFL Super Bowl.  Zion will have their own field set up again this year on February 6 and 13 by Gina Bushey, and you are encouraged to bring cans of soup (tomato, chicken noodle, vegetable, rice, stars – no cream-based soup, please) to benefit John’s MealsJust put your donations in the appropriate end zone, and we’ll see if we can surpass last year’s collection total!

Beverage Tabs:  Please keep those beverage tabs coming!  They are donated to Lincoln Elementary School to benefit a student currently in need of a wheelchair due to a swimming/diving accident last year.  Every tab is a step closer to funding her chair!

Recycling Bulletins:  Don’t forget to recycle your bulletins after worship by dropping them in the box at the back of church.

Visitors – We’re glad you stopped in.  Don’t forget to help yourselves to a welcome packet on the credenza in the back of church!
