Visitors: Welcome to our church. Please sign our guest book! If you do not have a church home, we pray that you will find one with us. We have large-print bulletins available, as well as hearing assistance devices. Please ask an usher if you require either of these. Restrooms are located in the church school building. Go through the door next to the choir loft, and straight ahead. We also have restrooms downstairs in Fellowship Hall. Again, exit through the door next to the choir loft, turn left down the hall, and go down the steps.
We Gather In Awe And Wonder
Chime Interlude And Candle Lighting
Leader: God said “let there be light” and so it was. That light has never been conquered, just as God’s goodness can never be overcome by darkness.
People: The light of Christ has dawned in our lives. We give thanks and celebrate that we can be that light to others.
Leader: Epiphany means that what has been hidden is now revealed. The Holy Spirit continues to reveal God’s truth and grace in this world.
Response: “O Lord, Our Lord”………………..#613
*Call To Worship
One: Go up to a high mountain, to the thin place where you can meet God.
All: May we open our senses to discover God is near.
One: Look over the landscape, look with discerning eyes.
All: We see the world struggling, and hear its despair.
One: Listen for the Word – present and pressing,
All: challenging injustice, urging compassion, calling for peace.
One: Find your place with saints and prophets and Jesus himself,
All: whose lives give inspiration, whose words encourage and guide.
One: Move through this time of worship – meeting, looking, listening, preparing.
All: God, send your Spirit to be with us and show us how to live.
*Hymn: “O Lord My God”……………………. ………………#625
One: God of light and glory, may we recognize your glory around us – a sense of the sacred found in the everyday: in the stories of faith we tell, in the lives of the people we meet, in the words we use to speak. May your majesty and mystery always be within our seeing, close enough for our hearing, and present in our living. Amen.
We Recognize Our Brokenness
Prayer Of Confession
One: Our holy God has spoken and proclaimed to the world from east to west. Out of Zion God shines forth in radiant beauty.
All: Lord, have mercy.
One: Our God comes not in silence, but as a consuming fire, a mighty tempest raging all around.
All: Christ, have mercy.
One: O Holy One, you summon heaven above and the whole world to judge your people. You say, “Gather to me my faithful people, who have covenanted with me.”
All: Lord, have mercy.
One: “Let the heavens declare my faithful justice.”
All: Surely our God is our judge! (A time for silent prayers of confession.)
Assurance Of God’s Forgiveness
Leader: God alone is judge; throughout the scriptures, we hear God’s word challenging all the empires we erect in self-love and self-seeking power. God’s mercy is sure; if we turn to God in humility, offering our hearts and lives to God, we are received with open arms and a blessing. Friends of Christ, turn to God and live. Amen.

Message For This Day
*Hymn: “Glorious Things of Thee Are Spoken”………..……..#81
Pastoral Prayer And The Lord’s Prayer
(Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.)
Our Offering: Our financial offering is one way that our members participate in the mission and ministry of this church. We thank you for your financial support. For those of you who are visiting, please feel no need to participate in the offering. This worship service is our gift to you.
*Doxology: “Praise God, from Whom All Blessings” …..….#606
*Prayer Of Dedication
Leader: Responding to your blessing on us, O God, and our love for you, we bring these offerings of our resources, our best efforts, and ourselves. May we prove faithful to you and to those faithful ones who have come before us. And may our lives also shine brightly in the world as evidence of our hope. Amen.

On Sunday, February 18, we will have a Jesus Loves Me Valentine’s Day party. Jess will assemble goodie bags and would love for members of the church to help with cards. A basket of Valentine’s will be on the credenza with each child’s name on an envelope. Feel free to take a card and write a note to that child. If you know something about them, have recognized good behavior in church, etc., feel free to write a personal note. Our Treasurer, Laurie, has announced her intention to “retire” from this position in May. We have so appreciated Laurie’s steady steering of our finances at Zion. In addition, Jess will be “retiring” at the end of this SS program year. We are also deeply appreciative of her work to strengthen and maintain a fine program. So Zion U.C.C. has the following paid positions open: church treasurer beginning June 2018 and Sunday School Supervisor beginning August 2018. Anyone interested in receiving information and/or applications for either position should contact Donna.
