Fifth Sunday after Epiphany
Visitors: Welcome to our church. Please sign our guest book! If you do not have a church home, we pray that you will find one with us. We have large-print bulletins available, as well as hearing assistance devices. Please ask an usher if you require either of these. Restrooms are located in the church school building. Go through the door next to the choir loft, and straight ahead. We also have restrooms downstairs in Fellowship Hall. Again, exit through the door next to the choir loft, turn left down the hall, and go down the steps.
We Gather In Awe And Wonder
Epiphany Candle Lighting
Leader: We light a candle in the name of the One who filled all creation with the Word.
People: We light a candle in the name of the Christ the Morning Star, whose incarnate presence brings light to the world.
Leader: We light a candle to remind us to blaze forth with the Holy Spirit, a shining city on a hill.
*Call To Worship
One: We give thanks to God with our whole heart.
All: Before God, we sing our praises.
One: God is steadfast and faithful and answers our call.
All: God increases the strength of our souls.
One: Though we walk in the midst of trouble,
All: God preserves us and stretches out a hand to help.
One: We raise our own hands in praise and our voices in worship,
All: for God’s steadfast love endures forever.
*Hymn: “ Fairest Lord Jesus”………………………………………………….………#630
Leader: When our hearts are doubting, your steadfast love never wavers. When our minds are dull, you open them with the unexpected. When our judgments are sharp, you soften us with your grace. When our bodies are weary, you soothe us with nature’s embrace. When our souls are anxious, you surprise us with your awe. God, awaken in us a sense of wonder that we may be made new in you. Amen.
We Recognize Our Brokenness
Prayer Of Confession
One: God of unwavering love, you ask us to listen, but we try only to comprehend and control. You ask us to look, but we seek only to possess and underestimate what we see. Teach us how to move beyond looking with only our eyes, listening with only our ears, and learning with only our minds. Give us the ability to turn our hearts from the expected to the unexpected, and to be healed not by what we can manage on our own but by what we can experience through your promise. Amen.
(A time for silent prayers of confession.
Assurance Of God’s Forgiveness
One: When everyone and everything we know feels far away, all that we hope for and all that we need is present in the holy seed of God’s steadfast love.
All: Our hope is in the seed that lies beneath God’s good creation. Our faith is in what we cannot see. Our love is in God’s very being that is always with us. Amen.

And forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.)

We Go Forth To Live Transformed lives

One: In the presence of your Spirit and each other, you open our eyes, ears, and hearts.
All: Send us out in a state of openness, so that we may be surprised by the abundance of your creation.
One: Surprise us, O God,
All: for your love is amazing.

The Sunday School Children are learning this month about Living God’s Word: Time and Money. We are discussing stewardship as well as giving of our time and talents. And what better way to show God’s love during the month of love than by doing a mission project?!? We will be collecting spare change all month for our project “Pennies for Puppies (and Kitties).” There will be a jar in the sanctuary and main Sunday School room to collect change. We will use our proceeds to donate supplies to the Adams County SPCA. Thanks for your support!
Weaver’s Bus Company located in Aspers, PA is seeking school bus drivers. A valid driver’s license, clearances, and CDL Class B are required, but they will help train! Only 4 hours a day and summers off, great for retirees, or stay at home parents!
Attention All Thrivent Members: UACT is now authorized to receive your quarterly Thrivent Choice $. To authorize the donation, simply call 1-800-847-4836. Select the selection for Thrivent Choice, and request the value of your Choice $ be paid to Upper Adams Christians Together. It’s that easy!
Bendersville Lutheran Church is sponsoring a trip to Sight and Sound to see JESUS on April 12, 2019. See details in the flyers on the credenza at the back of church if interested in attending.
Zion’s “Souper Bowl”: Although the Patriots were the victors last Sunday on national television, Zion’s local bowl contest had a different result! With 195 cans of soup weighing down the Rams’ end zone versus 77 cans of soup at the Patriots’ end of the field, our members showed their preferences as well as their generosity. And the true victor was John’s Meals which will use the soup donations to feed the hungry in our community. Thanks to all participants.
Sunday School Issues: On February 24, 2019, following church, we are asking the Sunday School parents, and those interested in Sunday School issues, to be present for a church chat. This chat deals exclusively with Sunday School-related issues such as: curriculum, leadership, programming, nursery staffing, and renewing the work of a Christian Education steering team. Please remember that Jess Parker is retiring from her position in May and much needs to be resolved about the future of our program for children.

Single Serve, Microwaveable Cups Of Macaroni And Cheese are being collected to benefit John’s Meals. The cups need not be a brand name (like Kraft); store brand is fine. We are aiming to provide 200 cups each month and they may be placed in the cupboard in the rear of the church. The 18-pkg boxes of single-serve Mac and Cheese is also a good donation. It is cheaper and easier to store (boxes). As always, thank you so much for your faithful support of this ministry.
Community Aid Clothing Bin is available in the Zion House parking lot for clothing donations along with shoes, accessories, draperies, and bed linens. We receive funds each quarter based upon the weight of items deposited in the container, and those funds are used toward the Mission Budget. For the third quarter of 2018, Zion received $232.
