Song of Simeon
Visitors: Welcome to our church. Please sign our guest book! If you do not have a church home, we pray that you will find one with us. We have large-print bulletins available, as well as hearing assistance devices. Please ask an usher if you require either of these. Restrooms are located in the church school building. Go through the door next to the choir loft, and straight ahead. We also have restrooms downstairs in Fellowship Hall. Again, exit through the door next to the choir loft, turn left down the hall, and go down the steps.
We Gather In Awe And Wonder
Chime Interlude And Candle Lighting Response
Leader: We light a candle in the name of the God who spoke the world into existence.
All: We light a second candle in the name of the King who was, and who is, and who ever shall be.
Leader: We light a light in the name of the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, who walks beside us.
Choral Response: “Love Has Come”……………..…#110, v. 1
*Call To Worship
One: Again and again, the Psalms call us together to praise the Holy One:
All: Let us praise God from the heavens, from the heights – from all places!
One: Let the sun and the moon and all the shining stars praise this amazing God.
All: May all creation and every created being praise God.
One: Let God be praised by every ruler and every peoples,
All: young men and women alike, old and young, able-bodied as well as challenged. We have been raised up, brought together again. Come, let us worship God!
*Hymn: “It Came Upon the Midnight Clear” ……………#123
One: O God who gave form to the Cosmos and has amazed us down through the ages,
All: open us to be amazed today by the beauty visible around us.
One: Your beloved child, born of old, has been born again in our midst this Christmas season;
All: may we feel his love working in us and through us.
One: We were captive to powers and principalities,
All: but the fullness of time is here and now – we are prepared to receive you gladly and rejoice in freedom.
We Recognize Our Brokenness
Prayer Of Confession
All: Holy one, we acknowledge before one another and to your Presence with us that we have fallen short in so many ways. We have tried on our own to set our lives right, to be loving and giving, to serve the world beyond our doors; but we recognize that without you to empower us, we get stuck in the ruts of our own lives. Help us, we pray, and give us strength to rely on your righteousness to guide us. Help us to live according to your word. Amen. (A time for silent prayers of confession.)
Assurance Of God’s Forgiveness
One: As Jesus himself cried, “Abba! Father!” let us do likewise, for the Good News is this: the spirit of the living Christ will come into our hearts, and we are set free to live fully.
All: Praise be to God!

Pastoral Prayer And The Lord’s Prayer
(Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.)
Our Offering: Our financial offering is one way that our members participate in the mission and ministry of this church. We thank you for your financial support. For those of you who are visiting, please feel no need to participate in the offering. This worship service is our gift to you.
*Doxology: “Praise God, from Whom All Blessings” ……….…..….#606
*Prayer Of Dedication
Leader: O generous Creator, giver of every good gift, let our offerings keep the life of those gifts circulating. Accept, we pray, these tokens of our gratitude for all we have received. May they be of use in extending the work of our community to the world beyond our doors. Amen.
We Go Forth To Live Transformed lives
*Closing Hymn: “Go, Tell It on the Mountain” ……………….#136
One: God of love and birther of hope, dismiss us now in peace, according to your Word.
All: Our eyes have been your salvation, which you have long ago prepared.
One: You have prepared your salvation in the presence of all peoples, everywhere;
All: may we go forth shining, to be a light of revelation for the glory of all. Amen.
*Choral Benediction: “Love Has Come”………….……#110, v. 2, 3

Please Join Us For Another UACT Adult Study Series, “A Closer Look at our Bible.” We reconvene in January for a series that looks at the Bible from the viewpoint of the different types of writing that we find there. Some of those categories include history, poetry and wisdom writings, Apocalyptic literature, and Gospel. Each is unique and expresses God’s Holy Word in ways that tell the story of God and God’s People.
For instance, have you ever wondered:
- How, when and why were the four gospels written? Why are there differences between them?
- Why are there two different stories of creation in the beginning of Genesis?
- What in the world is Revelation all about and are we to take it literally?
The sessions will be on January 4, 11, 18, and 25. There will be a 9:30 a.m. session at Trinity UCC Biglerville, and an evening session at 6:30 p.m. at Zion UCC Arendtsville. The sessions will be led by UACT clergy. Please Join Us! Please let Pastor Kim know of your interest.
