Faith Witnesses

Visitors: Welcome to our church.  Please sign our guest book!  If you do not have a church home, we pray that you will find one with us.  We have large-print bulletins available, as well as hearing assistance devices.  Please ask an usher if you require either of these.  Restrooms are located in the church school building.  Go through the door next to the choir loft, and straight ahead.  We also have restrooms downstairs in Fellowship Hall.  Again, exit through the door next to the choir loft, turn left down the hall, and go down the steps.

*Where noted, please stand if able.

We Gather In Awe And Wonder

Chime Interlude And Candle Lighting

Leader: Loving Spirit, you have chosen us to receive your light, and we light a candle as a sign of our gratitude.

All: Friend, Advocate, Guide—Lord Jesus you enfold us in your love, and we light a candle to celebrate your Presence, in which we rest.

Leader: Holy God, you have drawn us to your wonder, as you set your seal upon us in our baptism.  We light a candle in amazement that you care for each and every one of us, as your own child.

All: We light three candles for the Holy Trinity that loves, redeems, and sustains us.

*Call To Worship

One: God of life, as we prepare for worship today, help us not to take lightly the highly charged message we proclaim.  Help us sense the power, beauty, and mission of your Spirit.  Through Christ, our Lord.

All: Amen.

*Hymn: “Come, Thou Almighty King”……………….……#2

Leader: We come before you this day, O God, surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses.  As you have been with your people throughout history, so we know you are with us even now.  In this time of worship, help us to celebrate your presence among us, and strengthen us to continue the work you have begun.  Amen.

We Recognize Our Brokenness

Prayer Of Confession

Leader: Loving God, you provide all we need and watch over us.  But in response, we have often ignored your care, and have not always lived in ways you long for.  We know that, like those who have gone before us, and all of your people even now, we at times disappoint you, going against your hopes and dreams.  Forgive us, God.  Don’t give up on us.  Continue to care for us, that we might do your will, producing the fruits of justice and proclaiming your praise.  Amen. (A time for silent prayers of confession.)

Assurance Of God’s Forgiveness

Leader: God has been with saints throughout history, and God is with us now.  Know that you are forgiven, and invited by God into new living.

All: Thanks be to God.  Amen.

Leader: Such a large crowd of witnesses is all around us!

All: So let us get rid of everything that slows us down, especially the sin that just won’t let go.

Leader: Let us be determined to run the race that is ahead of us.

All: Let us take with us the blessing of Jesus, who leads us and makes our faith complete; the blessing of our Heavenly Mother and Father, from whom we come; and the blessing of the Holy Spirit, who breathes life into us all.  May the God of our ancestors lead us into the future.  Amen
