“Baptized in Faith, Confirmed into God’s Community”
Candlelighting (C.J. and Hannah)
Leader: We are a people living in the light of God’s Resurrection Power. We light a candle to celebrate this amazing love.
People: We are a people living in the light of Christ’s saving power. We light a candle to celebrate our redemption.
Leader: We are a people enlivened and emboldened by the Holy Spirit. We light a candle to celebrate this gift of divine presence.
People: We give thanks for all the ways that the Church has transformed the world, given us hope, and brought us into the light. May the power of Jesus Christ continue to move us forward into the future, as we celebrate the Confirmation of these young people into full membership in the Body of Christ.
Praise Response: “Lord, Prepare Me to be a Sanctuary”
Lord prepare me, to be a sanctuary, pure and holy, tried and true…
With thanksgiving, I’ll be a living sanctuary for you.
Call to Worship: Mark 1: 9-11 (N.T., pg. 33) (Gabriella)
Leader: In those days Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan.
People: And just as he was coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens torn apart and the Spirit descending like a dove on him. And a voice came from heaven, “You are my Son, the Beloved; with you I am well pleased.”
*Opening Hymn: “In the Midst of New Dimensions”………………………………….………#315
*Prayer of Invocation (Gabriella)
All: We gather today to learn what it is to be a pilgrim community. We gather bringing our hopes and fears, our memories and our dreams. We gather, longing for the guidance of God’s Spirit to give us courage for the road ahead. Come, Christ Jesus, be in our midst. Bless us as we remember our ancestors in the faith who have shown us the way forward. Help us to find a clear vision for the future, as we learn to be disciples, day by day. Amen. (Please be seated)
Time of Confession (Ashlyn)
Leader: As we prepare to come to the Lord’s Table, let us confess our sins before God and one another.
All: Lord, forgive us for our sinful actions. Those actions have hurt us, those around us, and have caused us to stray from your love. Grant healing to those who have been hurt, and help us to get back on the path you have prepared for us. God, you continue to call us back into community, and we are thankful that you do not keep score of our wrongs or measure how far we have wandered. As we are welcomed home to you, we pray that we will learn from that forgiveness, and offer it to others, as well.
Assurance of Pardon (Pastor Kim)
Leader: Sometimes we get all tied up remembering, keeping score, bearing grudges. God doesn’t. Your past is accepted. Let it go. Live in the freedom God hands to you afresh each day. Know that there is nothing that can separate us from the love of God in Jesus Christ our Lord. We are each of us a new creation in Christ, fully loved, and fully forgiven.
People: God’s name be praised!
Psalm 37: vss 12-24 (O.T., pg. 483) (Liam)
Acts 16: vss 25-34 (N.T., pg. 128) (Joey)
The Message: (Emma, Liam, Ashlyn, Joey)
*Apostle’s Creed (Please turn to page 35 in front of hymnal) (Hannah)
(During the Creed our confirmands, through the action of “asperges” or sprinkling of water, will remind us of our baptism and our baptismal promises.)
Leader: Let us unite with the Church in all times and places in confessing our faith in the triune God. Will all who are able please stand? Let us confess the faith of our Baptism.
I believe in God, the Father almighty, Creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
Affirmation Of Baptism Through The Act Of Confirmation

Pastor Ben: Brothers and Sisters in Christ: In Holy Baptism our Lord Jesus Christ receives all of us into the Body of Christ. These young people have found nurture and support in the midst of the family of Christ, in their respective churches. They present themselves here for service to Jesus Christ, using the gifts the Spirit bestows.

As part of our preparation for this service, the Confirmands decided to create the crosses that were given with the bulletins. The crosses are to signify the gift of baptism, and the Living Water given by our Lord Jesus Christ.
The UACT pastors wish to thank the families and mentors of our youth. Without you our pastoral work could not be undertaken! We appreciate the diligence with which you supported Confirmation, and assisted this important process of Christian nurture. Each youth being confirmed today was given a card noting a scripture passage selected for them personally, by their pastor. The verse is meant to remind him or her of how special they are both to their pastor and to God!
