“Healing Powers”
Visitors: Welcome to our church. If you do not have a church home, we pray that you will find one with us. We have large print bulletins available, as well as hearing assistance devices. Please ask an usher if you require either of these. Restrooms are located in the church school building. Go through the door next to the choir loft, and straight ahead toward the nursery. We also have restrooms downstairs in Fellowship Hall. Again, exit through the door next to the choir loft, turn left down the hall, and go down the steps. Please sign our guest book!
We Gather To Worship
Prelude
Announcements
Chime Interlude
*Call To Worship
Leader: In the midst of life’s chaos, at the heart of our discontent, within the fragments of human brokenness,
All: lives the healing presence of God.
Leader: Beyond our fears and misgivings, before the excuses and doubting, at home within the honest and vulnerable,
All: lives the healing power of God.
Leader: Come, let us not pretend we do not know these places. Let us not avoid what is most real. For in the facing and the accepting,
All: lives the healing embrace of God.
*Hymn: “Come, Ye Disconsolate................................ #613
*Opening Prayer
All: Generous Creator of love and life, in your welcome embrace lies both our hope and healing. May this time of prayer and listening be for us, then, a renewal of spirit and courage for faith’s journey. Amen. (We light the Christ Candle.)
Prayer Of Confession
Leader: I will not yield so easily. I will not hand over everything. This is my life and it is for me to control.
People: Yet, why then of late, O God, does it seem that very little is working? Why is my confidence left shaken and I’m left feeling anything but strong? In fact, I feel fragile and uncertain in ways I have felt before.
Leader: Might it be that I’m running on empty? That at the end of my own resources is the beginning of your own? That my own desire and ability to love needs to be filled with the gift of love itself?
All: Heal us, O God, of the need to avoid the hidden places. Open our hearts and minds to a grace and goodness that finds us exactly where we are, and which touches us deeply, lifting us up to new and creative lives. (A time for silent prayers of confession; Music: “Grace Greater Than Our Sin.”)
Assurance Of God’s Forgiveness
Leader: The Lord builds up Jerusalem; he gathers the outcasts of Israel. He heals the brokenhearted, and binds up their wounds. Great is our Lord, and abundant in power; his understanding is beyond measure.
Affirmation: “O Lord Most High”. . . ………………………………#828

He is an ordained minister in the Protestant Church of the Rhineland, which is in communion with the United Church of Christ. Chaplain Kuhn is expected to discuss his efforts training future pastors in Clinical Pastoral Education, as well as his experiences in the parish in Germany and in the chaplaincy here in the states. Read All About It! Please prayerfully consider becoming a sponsor, and adding to Zion’s Sunday School library youth collection! Zion’s CEST is already gearing up for the 2009-2010 Sunday School year, and we are once again asking for help from Zion’s congregation to sponsor the books and/or DVDs that accompany our K-6th Grade Rotational Model Curriculum. Zion’s congregational support for this endeavor last year was overwhelming! If every church family unit sponsored just one book or video, our needs would be quickly met! Such a sponsorship helps us offset our Sunday School budget significantly. Books and DVDs start at $7.00 and vary in price and topic. For your convenience, the sponsor sign-up sheet is now located on a clipboard on the credenza at the rear of the sanctuary. Please submit payment to either Gina or Meagan (checks may be made payable to Zion Sunday School). Thank you in advance for your support, Zion’s Christian Education Steering Team (CEST).
Living History Project. If you are interested in purchasing one or more bricks for the Zion House Brick Project, obtain an order form from the Church office and return the form to the church office or John.
Greeters Needed for July 12; Aug. 2, 9, 16; Sept. 6, 13, 20, 27.
Scripture Setting Sponsors Needed for July 26; Aug. 9, 16, 30; Sept. 20.

Prayers Of The People: You are invited to offer any prayers you wish by writing them on the PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE paper located at the rear of the sanctuary. Please share both joys and concerns. Also, if you would like to share a prayer out loud during the pastoral prayers you are invited to do so during the interval provided.
Please Tell Us. Is someone you love hospitalized? Does someone need a visit from the pastor or the visitation team? Do you have a birth, marriage, death or other information you'd like to include in the newsletter or bulletin? Please tell us! Our church office counts on you to keep us informed. Hospital visitors for this month are listed with the lay ministers in this bulletin and in the monthly newsletters.
If You Have A Need For Prayer, please remember that we have a prayer chain available. Please call Liz and she will activate the chain for you. Our Lord teaches us in Matthew Chapter 18: 19"Again, I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven. 20For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them."
