Eleventh Sunday in Ordinary Time:  “Seeds Take Root”

Visitors:  Welcome to our church.  If you do not have a church home, we pray that you will find one with us.  We have large print bulletins available, as well as hearing assistance devices.  Please ask an usher if you require either of these.  Restrooms are located in the church school building.  Go through the door next to the choir loft, and straight ahead toward the nursery.  We also have restrooms downstairs in Fellowship Hall.  Again, exit through the door next to the choir loft, turn left down the hall, and go down the steps.  Please sign our guest book!

We Gather To Worship

Prelude

Announcements

Chime Interlude

*Call To Worship

Leader:       As seed is scattered generously in the hope of new growth,

People:       so are we gathered, then sent by the generous and hopeful love of God.

Leader:       And as plants take root deep within nourishing soils,

People:       so are we invited to find our lives in the very heart of God.

Leader:       Friends, be strengthened and encouraged.  Let us open ourselves to the God who delights in our growth as people of wisdom, spirit, and compassion.

All:              Amen.

*Hymn:                 “For the Fruit of All Creation”.................................................. . #379

*Opening Prayer

Leader:       God of great kindness and undying hope, we ask that your vision of a renewed world be rekindled in us today.

People:       May the promise of your reign and the wonder of its inclusive ways, redirect and inspire us into the days and weeks ahead.

Leader:       In the name of Christ and through the enfolding of the Spirit we pray.

All:              Amen.  (We light the Christ Candle.)

*Response:    “Lord, Listen to Your Children Praying”………………………..#629

Prayer Of Confession

Leader:       Holy One, whose very presence is creative, effusive love, we acknowledge in ourselves an all too careful approach to life and faith.

People:       Free us to live in the creative moment, O God.

Leader:       We confess the need to be in control by forcing our will upon others and demanding changes that we ourselves would never be able to make.

People:       Free us to live in the creative moment, O God.

Leader:       May our reason be shaken by astonishment, our opinions tempered by wonder, and our well-made plans undone by new horizons of experience.

People:       Free us to live in the creative moment, O God.  (A time for silent prayers of confession; Music:  “My Lord of Light Who Made the Worlds.”)

Words Of Assurance

Leader:       Friends in Christ, take great comfort in the mystery of God’s love.  For all are welcome within its healing shade and nothing can lie beyond its breadth of beauty, kindness, and mercy.

People:       Thanks be to God.  Amen.

A Christian Education Meeting will be held today after worship.

Flag Day.  Today at 7:00 p.m., at the Legion Woods in Biglerville, the Biglerville Legion will hold a flag retirement ceremony.  According to flag etiquette, this is the proper way to dispose of American flags.  This meaningful ceremony is open to all – families are encouraged to attend.

The 2009 FLOWER CALENDAR is now posted in the vestibule.  Available dates are July 5, 12; and December 27.  We welcome you to sign up.    ($30 “Florist Choice”)

Read All About It!  Please prayerfully consider becoming a sponsor, and adding to Zion’s Sunday School library youth collection!  Zion’s CEST is already gearing up for the 2009-2010 Sunday School year, and we are once again asking for help from Zion’s congregation to sponsor the books and/or DVDs that accompany our K-6th Grade Rotational Model Curriculum.  Zion’s congregational support for this endeavor last year was overwhelming!  If every church family unit sponsored just one book or video, our needs would be quickly met!  Such a sponsorship helps us offset our Sunday School budget significantly.  Books and DVDs start at $7.00 and vary in price and topic.  For your convenience, the sponsor sign-up sheet is now located on a clipboard on the credenza at the rear of the sanctuary.  Please submit payment to either Gina or Meagan (checks may be made payable to Zion Sunday School).  Thank you in advance for your support, Zion’s Christian Education Steering Team (CEST).

Greeters Needed for June 21, 28; July 5, 12, 19, 26; Aug. 2, 9, 16, 23.

Scripture Setting Sponsors Needed for June 21, 28; July 5, 12, 26; Aug. 9, 16, 30.

Pastoral Relations Committee Members

Prayers Of The People:  You are invited to offer any prayers you wish by writing them on the PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE paper located at the rear of the sanctuary.  Please share both joys and concerns.  Also, if you would like to share a prayer out loud during the pastoral prayers you are invited to do so during the interval provided.

Please Tell Us.  Is someone you love hospitalized?  Does someone need a visit from the pastor or the visitation team?  Do you have a birth, marriage, death or other information you'd like to include in the newsletter or bulletin?  Please tell us!  Our church office counts on you to keep us informed.  Hospital visitors for this month are listed with the lay ministers in this bulletin and in the monthly newsletters.

If You Have A Need For Prayer, please remember that we have a prayer chain available.  Please call Liz; she will activate the chain for you.   You may also submit a prayer request to the Prayer Center on our Web site.  It is located under “Connect.”   Our Lord teaches us in Matthew Chapter 18:  19"Again, I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven. 20For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them."
