Christian Education Steering Team Minutes: June 14, 2009 at 10:00 a.m.
Gina provided information regarding our financial picture: The balance in the checking account is $2,444.94. The carnation sale took in $377, with the carnations costing approximately $130. So far, $117 has been received towards the 2009/2010 materials, with Bob offering to purchase any that are not sponsored. The three breakfast outings for ZYP: 2/15, 3/29 and 5/24 have been paid out of the monies the kids earned at Apple Harvest. The breakfasts were $347.61 and they earned $400. We have two more envelope offerings this year, and the savings balance is $2,186.72. Recruiting teachers and curriculum issues: Angie will recruit for music, Kim for Art, Mindy for games and story. We will not need a music teacher for December due to the pageant and a shifting of stations in the rotation curriculum. There will be no gathering on cooking days, since a full hour is needed to complete a project. Meagan will be asked to help put the spring schedule together so that we can begin recruiting now. Mandy will contact the names on the substitute list to see if they are still willing to serve. VBS is July 6 through 10. Chris and Jess are doing the snacks and we are shepherding the youngest group. Dawn will do this on Monday and Wednesday and Kim on Tuesday and Thursday. It is unsure at this point if we need to do games or not. . . Josie will let us know. The Lauren will work on freshening the art work and overall décor in the main SS room. This will take place over the next five weeks. She will be paid for her work. Rally Day is September 13, 2009. We will promote the idea that families would attend SS and go to the various stations with the children. Chris will organize refreshments, and Kim will do the greeting and gathering. We will put this in the newsletter and contact families ahead of time. We discussed the pre-school class for 2009-2010. At this point, Logen is the only child likely to attend. At that rate, Beth would not want to teach, if it was only her child attending. A letter to other potential attendees’ families was sent out, with no replies. Some shifting around could occur, such as leaving Emma in the class, along with other Kindergarten children and then making a 1 and 2 grade class as opposed to a K-2 class. Kim and Jess will talk to Beth about this. We will also check with Beth to see if curriculum needs to be ordered. Jess has offered to serve as the SS Coordinator for the 2009-2010 year. The group was delighted at the prospect. She will be paid the amount allotted in the current budget for the position. She and Kim will confirm the job description. Next meeting August 2, after church. |
