$925.00 was received to replenish the Capital Improvement fund. The Edward Jones account showed a loss of $474.00 while the Lord Abbett fund had a gain of $49.00. Somehow, the check to pay Barb A. took an unexpected detour to Wisconsin! Prior to it finally arriving at Barb’s address, another check was cut for her, and the wandering payment will be voided. There have been hiccups with the money counting procedure in recent weeks, and Jay J. (Finance Chair) and the Treasurer will be working to streamline the process and develop new forms. Cindy will report any address changes to Kathy as they become known.
A motion to approve the Treasurer’s report was made by Craig L. and seconded by Bob V. The motion passed.
(See Pastor’s Report: Rev. George Heberling, January 16 to February 11, 2020, submitted on February 17th.)
Zion will participate in the joint UACT Ash Wednesday service at Flohr’s Lutheran Church on Feb. 26th at 7:00 p.m. Pastor George is preaching.
There is a possibility that next year’s Confirmation class will meet during the Sunday School hour as parents are requesting that. There is some concern that the Confirmands are not developing a United Church of Christ identity from the joint study. Pastor Heberling would also like to address the perceived disconnect on the part of students between Sunday School and church.
The Consistory unanimously accepted the report.
(See Ministry Reports, February 17, 2020.)
The Property Committee reported there is no set date for sanctuary lighting installation yet. The Personnel Committee will be holding a meeting soon. The Stewardship chair requested a list of the special offering dates.
The Consistory accepted the Ministry Reports.
Retreat Minutes & Tasks: The Consistory discussed inviting Mike W., security officer for Fairfield School District and church member, to speak to Consistory about church safety procedures. Bob V. will contact him. Possible fire drills during Sunday School were also discussed as were revisions of the evacuation plan. Having reviewed the safety plan of Redeemer’s UCC, there was discussion about possible teams to address different safety aspects as well as the practice needed for drills. The UCC actually offers assistance with church security training. Pastor George will send the website address to Bob V. for his consideration and report back to the Consistory.
HolyCow! Survey – The last hard copies of the survey will be entered electronically this week. Wayne will get an update of the number of surveys completed and will explore the possibility of having the consulting company address the Consistory and Profile Committee on either March 19th or 26th about the results.
Amblebrook Brochure- The format of the updated brochure to be delivered to the Amblebrook Development was approved by the Consistory. New pictures of John’s Meals activity, a church stained glass window, and the new UCC logo will be added to the brochure. Cindy will get three quotes for printing brochure from Bream’s, MinuteMan Press, and Gettysburg Frame and Print. As Zion works toward becoming an invitational church, the brochure is step 1. It can be modified for other uses. Step 2 involves training for greeters and new guest book placement. Cindy will search for a guestbook with space for both home addresses and email addresses.
Pastoral Transition – There will be a form inserted into a future bulletin asking members to submit names of people whose opinions they value and whose judgement they trust to possibly serve on the Search Committee. Consistory will evaluate the answers and craft a list of possibilities and then approach the nominees.
The inaugural meeting of the Mens Breakfast Group at the Apple Bin was enjoyed by the eight attendants.
Zion received a thank you from Gettysburg C.A.R.E.S. for its donation.
A possibility of participating with Church World Service in assembling emergency disaster kits will be explored by the Mission Committee.
To assist young acolytes with lighting the Christ Candle, its position may be changed. Pastor George and Minda will review possible placement after worship.
Since the complicated money counting process may be due to software, Jay and Kathy will be directed to discuss that also in case a change should be made.
Kathy Fissel has offered to help with the grant application to Community Aid. Cindy will check for the email with the application and forward it to Wayne.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:37 p.m. with a motion to adjourn made by Minda H. and seconded by Craig L. The next consistory meeting will be on March 16, 2020 at 7:00 p.m.
