On Sunday November 13, 2011 we observed Veterans Day as part of our worship service.  General David Hicks, retired Chief of Army Chaplains, brought our message.  Our choir sang several selections, including the stirring new piece, American Anthem, by Gene Scheer.  That piece, sung by Norah Jones, was the theme for the Ken Burns PBS [...]

This year we had to postpone our annual event with the Healing Waters group because of the snow last Saturday, but we had a great day on November 5th.  7 vets from Forts Belvoir and Meade traveled to the Bennett fishing lodge for a day of fun, fishing, and camaraderie.  Lunch on the deck was [...]

On Saturday May 21, 2011, Zion once again helped the Biglerville American Legion place flags on the graves of veterns interred at Biglerville Cemetery.  We thank Donna Hale, confirmands Alex and Cooley, and Peggy Sue Matthews and her two younger children for helping.  This is a meaningful tradition of which we are glad to be [...]

On Sunday April 17 the skies dried up long enough for us to staff the Barlow rest stop  for the Face of America Bike Ride. This is a big event for Zion, and one of our favorite mission activities.  This year there were about 420 riders, and 80 of those were wounded warriors.  It’s just another [...]

Dear volunteers and friends– Thank you so much for your help with the FOA Bike Ride on Sunday.  Each of you have contributed to a wonderful project. Thanks to Tom Deloe for driving  the extra miles to pick up the energy drink mix. Thanks to the Busheys for the use of the trailer and meeting [...]

Zion collected money for Subway gift cards for use by the Walter Reed patients and their families.  There is a subway kiosk in the hospital so it is a popular alternative to cafeteria food. Our members  Jeff and Janet Davis drove the 150 $10.00 gift cards down to Walter Reed, and for that  we thank them.  [...]

Our mission committee voted to send Holy Joe’s Cafe $500 to assist with supplying coffee to the chaplain’s program at the large base in Southern Afghanistan, Camp Leatherneck.  The coffee sent is all fair trade coffee, which means that it is purchased at a fair price from smaller, family-owned coffee farms.  This offers a bigger [...]

Come one, come all!  We anticipate another busy year in veteran’s projects in 2011.  So far we are scheduled to once again help with the Face of America wounded warrior bike ride on Sunday April 17.  Unfortunately that is Palm Sunday, but we are still committed to the project.  We will hopefully host the wounded warriors [...]

On Sunday December 19th, along with many other blessings in a full worship service, we had a surprise visitor. One of the participants from the October wounded warrior fly fishing outing paid us a visit.  Doug came with his helping dog, Scooter. Doug brought with him a wonderful shadow box that he created for the [...]
