We certainly have met our initial goal of doing some short-term projects for veteran's that would be successful and build confidence!  In case, you didn't know...Angie said that 5 boxes of supplies were packed for shipment to the 108th Guard unit last Saturday at the VFW.  They will be sending more things in June (homemade cookies) and we are providing some Avon skin-so-soft which apparently is great bug spray!  We will let you know if we are collecting anything for that shipment.

The following information about this weekend's event is from our co-captain, Agine Vines:

We have received final confirmation and instructions for our Rest Stop on Sunday AM at the Barlow Fire Company.

Please plan to report to the Barlow Fire House on Sunday AM 4/26 at 9:30-9:45 AM.  (This report time is for all volunteers except for Bushey's, Ehly's and Vines'.  You should be aware of your separate report time.  Call me with any questions.)

Barlow Fire Company is located on the Taneytown Road south of Gettysburg.  Directions from Gettysburg Square are----- south on Baltimore St - right on Steinwehr Ave - left on the Taneytown Road (it's the intersection at Tommy's Pizza).  4 miles - Fire house sits on right.

Please bring along your own lawn chair/camp chair, sunscreen, sun glasses, hat (we KNOW it's going to be a beautiful day! -but just in case of inclement weather, please be prepared with a poncho, umbrella, etc).

Volunteers who were asked to bring tents/canopies/coolers/big drink mixing jugs, please bring them along.

Our responsibilities include - setting up tables/chairs/trash cans (from Barlow Fire Co), load drinks into the coolers, mix the drink mix, layout the already cut up oranges, cut the bananas, layout the apples, layout the cookies and energy bars, (we will have gloves for all food handlers).

When the 300 riders arrive at the stop, make sure they have access to the food and water/drink/soda.

For the injured riders, please go to them and make sure they have water and something to eat.  Some of them will want to get off of their bikes and into their wheelchairs so they can use the port-a-potty or just rest for a few minutes from their bikes.  Wheelchairs will be delivered to our stop prior to riders arriving.  Will need help to unload them from the trucks.

After all riders have left our stop, we need to clean up and make sure that the property is in better condition than we found it.

At last count we have 28 volunteers from Zion for our stop.  If necessary, we may be asked to move a few people to other areas to help, ie. traffic control.

Anticipated completion of our project should be approx 12:30 PM.

Thank you for your help, we should have a GREAT DAY!!

Any questions, please contact Carey Ehly or me.

See you Sunday AM,

Angie Vines

Veteran's Action Team Update:  April 7, 2009

April is  a wild month at Zon!  It is especially wild with respect to our veteran's program.  We have two different mission activities running concurrently.  First I want to update our friends on what is happening with the wounded warrior bike ride, the last weekend of the month.
