The congregation here at Zion is very active in mission.   Our Vision statement that guides our ministry is this:

Through the transforming of Jesus Christ, we strive to be disciples and to make disciples as we:

• Worship God with all our heart, mind and soul;
• Serve our neighbors through civic engagement and by being a moral presence in the community
• Grow in faith through study of scripture, prayer, and spiritual discipline
• Seek closer fellowship within the Body of Christ by being a church where members find nurture and challenge
• Witness to the life, death and Resurrection of Jesus Christ by bringing the light of Christ into the lives of others.

Here is a sampling of the ways we seek to fulfill God's vision for us:

1. We host the Gettysburg Area Soup Kitchen once each month.
2. We are a covenant partner in Habitat for Humanity,  and the CROP Walk.
3. Zion works with Hoffman Homes, a residential treatment facility for emotionally disturbed children, to provide Christmas gifts and help support their creative therapy programs.
4. Working through local social service agencies, our Matthew 25 fund provides funds for local residents in financial crisiis.   We also work with a local pharmacy to help pay prescription drug costs for those who can’t afford their medicine.
5. We are a Head Start center which serves 20 at-risk children and their families.
6. A "neighbor to neighbor" program is a partnership between Zion, Trinity Lutheran in Arendtsville, and the local borough authority to help residents of Arendtsville who are unable to do things like shovel their own snow or maintain their yards.
7. We take monthly food collections to the local food pantry.
8. We have a team of people interested in serving our local veterans and being an advocate for veterans issues.  Check the blog on this site.
9. We have recently entered into a partnership with our sister congregations, Trinity UCC Biglerville and Trinity UCC Gettysburg to better serve our neighbors who live at the Homeless Shelter in Gettysburg.  We hope to assist in fund-raising for the rooms at the new shelter, provide material assistance, and generally be a good neighbor to the residents of the shelter.
10. At Christmas we collect gifts for the residents at Homewood Home in Hanover.
11. We have a quilt ministry that makes lovely lap robes for anyone who needs a special touch of care.
12. We have a ministry that makes soup and bread for anyone who needs a helping hand due to illness, family emergency, etc.
